• You can get a hold on:

  Bitdefender free edition (www.bitdefender.com)

  ClamAV Antivirus, Free  (www.clamwin.com)

  you can also tryout AVG Antivirus (www.grisoft.com) but i donot think their free version would run on Windows server 2003

  Sophos Antivirus offers a free trial version (www.sophos.com), runs on Win2k3

  I hope that you can find your desired antivirus from above products.

• I know this thread is a little old but it still might help others to know that F-Prot Anti-Virus for Windows works on W2K3 for the same price as their Desktop:  $29.00.  Or for $50.00 you can get 10 licenses for desktop or servers.  It doesn’t cover all the extra server things like email, etc. but for users like me who use W2K3 as their primary desktop, it is great to see a company that doesn’t charge the normal «server-tax» for a product that works exactly the same on a desktop or a server.

  If I want extra server features, I don’t mind paying but anti-virus is anti-virus.  Similarly, NTFS is NTFS whether or not it is on W2K3 or WXP and yet disk cloning and defrag makers charge a premium of up to 2000% to run on a server even if you don’t need or use extra enterprise-type features.

  My hat’s off to F-Prot for dropping the server tax.  I hope others will follow suit.

• TimuMc & others: Thanks a bunch for the post. I was looking for a free antivirus for Win-2003 and found this thread which saved me a lot of «research time». I’m using Clainmwin free antivirus.

• Hi,

  I have CA  Security software free with my Time Warner Cable Internet Service and the anti-virus loaded just fine on Server 2003.  I am running a scan now, good stuff, real time protection, automatic updates, ect.  I tend not to like the CA firewall, kind of leaky, but a free AV for the server test box is always a plus.  They may have a 30-90 day trial on their website, just google .

• Thank you very much for your advice.  As a time warner subscriber, I have downloaded the CA  Internet Security Suite to my laptop (windows XP) today.  After the installation, my office outlook has been blocked. The application will popup and run for only one second and shut down automatically. Have I mistakenly done some setting at you CA Internet Secuirty Suite to accidentally block my office outlook?  I have disabled the firewall but the outlook still shut off automatically.  Can you help?

• I am also a Time Warner subscriber, and downloaded the «CA Internet Security Suite 2007» and installed it on my computer running Vista Home Premium SP1, which up until today, was running GREAT!

  This completely insidious software brought my computer to a CRAWL. Terrible. CPU shot up to 100% and stayed there until I was patient enough to close it down, log off, and reboot and get rid of the thing.

  What’s odd, though, is that doing a search for the product on the CA web site returns ZERO results. Hmm… did they GIVE this turkey to Time Warner for free or something? It should not be allowed on Vista. Trust me. I have just lost 3 hours just trying to get rid of the nasty piece of junk!

• i had the CAV(comodo anti virus) on my xp and only removing it and installing CIS (comodo internet security) the cis found a trojans and backdoors on mt computer  the ones that cavs missed.

  so in my opinion  the cav is nice but not powerfull and miss a lot of things!

  i have the same problem with w3k no free AV only clamAV but it doesnt have real time  protection!

  so until comodo fixed CIS to run on w3k i’ll stick with CAV

  btw avg8 doesnt run on w3k but 7.5 does (free of course)

• clamav could be used as 2nd/backup antivirus software.

  pctools’ antivirus is free and can be used on windows server 2003.

  it works fine, but it’s real-time scan rate is not so good — even when u use «fast scan»,
  it real-time scan cause some software startup slowly, like firefox, or cause some
  software interactive slowly, like cisco vpn client.

• i did installed the pctools anti virus it but it has too many false positive (and i know because i wrote the code )

  altho i was suprised that the false positive was some kind of trojan .i didnt think that the free addition will detect them cuz there is an additional price quate for the spyware detection.

  I know this is a old post but any good antivirus i can find is 10+ keys and 200+ USD and one have any ideas bitdefender now sucks MAGA sys resorces so thats out and any others i have seen here ehter dont have a live scan that will keep up with a web server or cost 200 + USD

• Spyware Terminator comes bundled with the ClamAV db, which it taps into for realtime scanning. Be careful to uncheck any questionable intrusive «spyware» it may offer to include for you during the installation, unless it’s something you really want on your server…

  IMO it slows things down a bit on foreground processes; but I may be blaming it for some other junk I’ve got installed. The file serving seems fine though. I’ve come to trust it enough to replace spybot for my anti-malware as well.

  Metascan includes the Clamwin engine as well as up to 7 other antivirus engines. It’s also available as a core service/API that can be used to integrate your own separately licensed antivirus appplication. Check it out: http://www.opswat.com/products/metascan

  It slows boot time by a few seconds, but does the job well. (Currently running it on 2k3).
  Also using Ashampoo Personal Firewall, (downloaded & installed on XP originally,
  but it installed on 2k3 with the same code no problems).
  I also use Spybot S&D for Immunizations weekly and haven’t had a problem yet,
  (and I am open due to my p2p actions.).

  Best part…

  On a side note:
  ImageBurn works great too (once burn rights are allowed).
  Just wish I could find a good FREE Partition Program for 2k3.

• Take a look at gparted Linux boot and all. I just partitioned server 2003 r2 No problems

• Try to use INNOBATE antivirus 1.0 version its a decent antivirus for windows 2003.

  this is latest version of INNOBATE anti virus.

  Avast and Kespersky,these two anti viruses are also good for windows 2003 and preferably with real time protection

• The CA internet security suite will NOT install on server 2003 It errors out with unsupported operating system.
