Death Stranding needs to run on Windows 10 1809 or higher

But they never mentioned this before! After searching high and low for a solution, nothing works except perhaps to re-install or refresh my Windows 10. I refuse to do that as I’d lose a lot of files and apps on my laptop, some of which are for work.

I’ve just completed Horizon Zero Dawn and despite the warning message (I’m still on 1803) that pops up every time I start the game, it mostly ran without any issues (only crashed a couple of times over 100 hours of gameplay, which is a non-issue).

So this sounds irrational — but if a game like HZD works, why can’t Death Stranding? Anyone knows if there’s a way to kinda ‘force run’ the game on 1803?

Maybe they’d rather put a hard restriction on the version that they ran QA on than have people potentially running into technical issues from outdated OS and complaining, badly reviewing them.
Maybe they even found some specific issues on older patches.

This is similar to people with 11+ year old CPUs without AVX calling for the game to cater to their inability to update, you’re running a 3 year old OS version, don’t be surprised when newer SW doesn’t like it.

^This — As someone who works for a gaming company. I watch devs FREQUENTLY complain about dealing with old code / platforms as time progresses.

Currently they are screaming at apple (quietly) about how older iOS’s cant handle file sizes for one of their games and constantly getting bounced back to maintain backwards compatibility.

Like it or not. if the publisher refuses to support older platforms or versions of a OS — even subversion’s in this case — its make it or break it. Budgets/Time don’t allow for such luxuries. So they start cutting off support on older systems.

If someones got a work around..great. but don’t be surprised if you encounter difficulties.

Got one friend who constantly complains non-stop about his game crashing / instabilities on a Windows 7 system.

Gets very mad when I point out Windows 7 is no longer considered «supported» — yet has no argument to give back.

In your case — this isn’t a case of «unsupported OS» — just that the game demands recent patch set or better.

Frankly — Windows 10 is a pain in the ass in this regard — but they must have a very good reason to hard lock it there. Sooner or later your companies IT Director/Officer will FORCE you into that version set. might as well get ready for it.

На любой торрент трекер зайди и скачай образ 10-и x64 20H2, запиши на диск, либо на флешку, либо извлеки файлы из архива в папку с помощью 7zip, и запусти setup, если не умеешь обновлять или переустанавливать винду позови того кто умеет.

Same error here. Windows is fully updated and so are my drivers and everything else. Windows pro version 1909.
1909 isn’t the most up to date version. It is — 2004 was rolled back due to constant TRIM issues. Even the Media creation tool was updated to abort the installation if your device is affected by 5 or more unsolved bugs
According to whom? the voices on your head? 1909 is the latest public build. The only alternative is 2004, which is still in beta and hasn’t launched.

Guys, I’ve managed to resolve it.

I have 1909 and got error as well. The solution for me was simple, but not obvious:

My Steam client was set to run in compability mode with Windows 8. I have no idea why. After I’ve unticked the compability box, the game launched.

Fix Death Stranding Requires Windows 10 version 1809 or Later Issue on PC

To fix the issue you will have to:

• Go to your Steam folder, usually located in
  • C:Program Files (x86)Steam

  This fix will not allow the Windows operating system version to check when the Windows Compatibility Mode is disabled on Steam. This should fix the issue.

1) Right-click an empty space on the desktop, then choose Nvidia Control Panel.
