I plugged in my PCR and it worked, I didn’t do anything with settings or drivers or anything at all. I just thought I would pass that on. I know there are a bunch of PCR users out there. Cakewalk Roland VS-20 still doesn’t though.

Amazing… Didn’t work for PCR-300…

I’m wondering if a more recent Windows 10 update has fixed the problem… I’ll give it a whirl

And still didn’t work… No matter what I do.

Ah well… I thought, for a minute there, that I could bring my little PCR-300 out of retirement.

I must admit, however, that I’m enjoying getting my MIDI keyboards (JP-8000 and OB-12) back into action after over ten years of them gathering dust in a corner.

Pretty old silver linings. If a piece of gear works it’s worth is what it would cost to replace it no matter how old. Wish I could tell you why the PCR is working.

Did you update from Win 7 or 8 to Win 10? If so that may be why it’s working. The driver was already installed.

I have officially sworn to not ever purchase Roland or Edirol «Pro» audio gear again.

Yeah, it was an update from 8.1. Didn’t work for a few day then it it did. Prob be a different story if I do a clean reinstall of Win 10. I’m with you. PCR controllers are not that old and the VS-20 even newer but no drivers. I won’t buy another Roland product.

I won’t buy another Roland product.

I thought the same, but the OCTA-CAPTURE, which I bought at the beginning of the week, suits my latest needs so perfectly.

Fortunately, it is completely «plug’n’play…» No drivers needed (for now).

I had to modify the Windows 8.1 PCR-500 drivers to make mine work in Win 10 (as did others — See Blades post on the Computer part of the forum).

Roland has has updated SOME device drivers to work in Win 10, such as the Octa-Capture and Studio-Capture. They are now «plug and play» rather than having to manually install the drivers.

Here is a list of updated drivers from the Roland site. The PCR keyboards are NOT listed as supported.

I notice that list now has more Yes’ that were previously No’s. I wonder if they are responding to customers contacting them directly.

I tried the Drivers for 8.1 but the damm thing wouldn’t load for my PCR-500, I also have a SD-90 that I would, like to get workin again.

Hey got the PCR-500 to Work tested it a little seem to be good. The Sd-90 is another thing haven’t had any luck with it so far. theres another post on how to set it up better explained after a lot of trial and error yahoo, if I can find it again i’ll post a link

Hi there,
I just bought a new desktop for Christmas using Windows 10 professional and I was really surprised that my Roland PCR300 Controller keyboard was recognised straight away by the Windows operating system and the drivers were automatically loaded. All the connections show up in Sonar Platinum under preferences/midi in the Midi Input and Midi Output fields. Roland have no Windows Drivers for Windows 10 so I decided to connect the PCR 300 via USB before trying to load any of the available drivers and it worked straight away.
Having said that, I need to spend some time over the holiday period to see if ACT will work with my PCR 300 as it did on my older PC using Windows 7.
I notice in Sonar Platinum that the PCR 300 does not show up in the list of devices under the pull down menu for midi controllers as it did under Windows 7 and Soar X3.
Will keep you posted.

Recently purchased a new PC (thanks 3XS) and migrated to Win 10.

Sadly Edirol/Roland do not support Win 10 with some of their older USB devices (likely due to costly driver certification?), so was unable to install my previously trusty Edirol UM-3EX 3-in/out MIDI interface. It attempts to install them, gets halfway through, then suddenly states the drivers aren’t compatible and automatically launches the uninstall process.

Attempting to install with compatibility settings, admin privileges, etc. also fail to work.

However there is a workaround that people have used with V-Drums and it worked for my UM-3EX too, although it takes a little editing and bypassing certification. It’s worth a try before you junk or ebay the unit which I was about to do.

Without further ado:

• Remove the Edirol/Roland USB device from your PC, if connected.
• Download the Windows 8.1 drivers for your Edirol/Roland device (UM-3EX in my case) from the Edirol/Roland website.
• Extract the contents its own new folder (um3ex_w81d_v101, in this case).
• Search the folder and sub-folders for an *.inf file. In my case there were two, one in each of the 32- and 64-bit folders: um3ex_w81d_v101/Files/64bit/Files/RDIF1058.INF and um3ex_w81d_v101/Files/32bit/Files/RDIF1058.INF
• Open these *.inf file(s) using Notepad.
• Search within the *.inf files (ctrl+f) for the text string: «[Roland.NTamd64.6.2]» (not including the speech marks) and take a look at the lines below it. Mine showed:

• The above lines of code show the drivers would be installed by Windows 8.x, but not for versions after it, even if they are compatible. To get it to install for Windows 10 you will need to copy the line of code that was used for [Roland.NTamd64.6.2] and paste it into the [Roland.NTamd64.7] section, overwriting where it says «;; not supported«.

So you should now have something similar below, where your Edirol/Roland device is duplicated for both the Roland.NTamd64.6.2 and Roland.NTamd64.7 portions:

• Save the *.inf files (overwrite them).

Given the drivers have now effectively been ‘tampered’ with, Windows won’t automatically allow them to be executed as a security precaution. Therefore you will need to install them without driver signature enforcement.

To do this (before going further you may need to write these down as you’ll be restarting your PC and may not know what to click)….

• Click Windows Start, and type «Change advanced start-up options» and execute it. This will take you to the Windows 10 Settings Recovery options.
• On the right, where it says Advanced Startup, choose «Restart Now»
• Once it takes you to the blue menu screen, click: «Troubleshoot», followed by «Advanced Settings» > «Startup Settings» > «Restart».
• Once PC has restarted, press the number 7 to ‘Disable driver signature enforcement’.
• Finally, navigate to where you extracted and modified the drivers and install the new modified drivers. Follow any on-screen prompts and insert the Edirol/Roland USB device when requested to complete the installation.
• Restart PC after completion (this will automatically take you out of ‘disable driver signature’ mode).

Done.
