Optional: Meshlab
With Meshlab you can display and convert most 3D files to a OBJ file. Meshlab also allows you «to decimate (reduce) or subdivide (increase) the vertices of models.» Often, downloaded 3D files will require hours to load into Hologram due to their complexity. Decimating the OBJ file will reduce the complexity of the figure, thereby reducing the render time in Hologram.
To decimate a model, open Meshlab. Load your model into the program under File, then Import Mesh. Once the file is loaded, select Filters. Then, select Remeshing, Simplification, and Reconstruction (all one entry). From this window, click on Quadric Edge Collapse Decimation to open its settings window.
The main setting to change is Target number of faces. The simplest method of reducing the complexity of the model, thereby reducing loading time, is to reduce the number of faces. - Preload Points — This setting pre-loads your model so you don’t have to load the whole object again. If your pre-load points equals your points total, your object will load instantly the next time it’s entered into Hologram.
- Edge Interpolation — Renders shape edges as points. This settings will increase the load time of your image.
- Color — The hex color dictates the color of your points. To change, enter a different hex color parameter. FFFFFF is the hex code for white, 000000 is the hex code for black. W3Schools offers a free online resource to check hex colors.
- Rotation — Enabling this setting will allow y-axis rotation of your model. Remember to enable rotation after the still model has been loaded into Hologram. Keep in mind, the rotation feature requires constant CPU usage.
Only enact these settings one at a time. For example, load an image, then increasing edge interpolation, then enable rotation, etc. Once you’ve finished choosing your settings, click Load to load your model. Rainmeter will freeze while this process is in motion. Once the model is loaded, you can change the pitch, yaw, and rotation settings by mousing over your model. You can also scroll up on your mouse to make the model smaller, or down to make it bigger.

21 января 2015 прошло очередное мероприятие Microsoft, посвященное готовящейся к выходу в этом году ОС Windows 10. Вероятно, вы уже читали новости об этом и знаете что-то о нововведениях, я же сосредоточу внимание на тех вещах, которые мне кажутся важными и расскажу, что я о них думаю.
Пожалуй, самое важное, о чем следует сказать — обновление до Windows 10 с Семерки и Windows 8 будет бесплатным на протяжении первого года после выхода новой версии. Учитывая тот факт, что большинство пользователей сейчас используют именно Windows 7 и 8 (8.1), практически все они смогут получить новую ОС бесплатно (при условии использования лицензионного ПО).
Кстати, в ближайшее время выйдет новая ознакомительная версия Windows 10 и в этот раз, как я и предполагал, с поддержкой русского языка (раньше нас этим не баловали) и, если хотите попробовать ее в работе, можете обновиться (Как подготовить Windows 7 и 8 к обновлению до Windows 10), только учитывайте, что это лишь предварительная версия и есть вероятность, что все будет работать не так хорошо, как хотелось бы.
Cortana, Spartan и HoloLens
Прежде всего, во всех новостях о Windows 10 после 21-го января встречается информация о новом браузере Spartan, личном помощнике Cortana (наподобие Google Now на Android и Siri у Apple) и поддержке голограмм с помощью устройства Microsoft HoloLens.
Spartan
Итак, Spartan — новый браузер Microsoft. Использует тот же движок, что и Internet Explorer, из которого убрали лишнее. Новый минималистичный интерфейс. Обещает быть быстрее, удобнее и лучше.
Как по мне, так это не такая уж и важная новость — ну браузер и браузер, соревнования в минимализме интерфейса — не то, на что обращаешь внимание при выборе. Как он будет работать и в чем именно будет лучше для меня как пользователя, пока не скажешь. И, думаю, ему уже сложно будет перетянуть на себя тех, кто привык использовать Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox или Opera, слегка припозднился Spartan.
Cortana
Личный помощник Cortana — то, на что стоит взглянуть. Также, как и Google Now, новая функция покажет уведомления о вещах, которые вам интересны, прогноз погоды, информацию из календаря, поможет создать напоминание, заметку или отправить сообщение.
Но и тут я не вполне оптимистичен: например, чтобы Google Now действительно показывал мне то, что может меня заинтересовать, он использует информацию с моего Android телефона, календаря и почты, историю браузера Chrome на компьютере, и, наверное, что-то еще, о чем я не догадываюсь.
И я предполагаю, для качественной работы Cortana, чтобы ей хотелось пользоваться, тоже понадобится иметь телефон от Microsoft, пользоваться браузером Spartan, а в качестве календаря и приложения заметок использовать Outlook и OneNote соответственно. Не уверен, что многие пользователи работают именно в экосистеме Microsoft или планируют переходить к ней.
Голограммы
Windows 10 будет содержать необходимые API для построения голографического окружения с помощью Microsoft HoloLens (носимое устройство виртуальной реальности). Видеоролики выглядят впечатляюще, да.
Но: мне, как обычному пользователю, это не нужно. Аналогичным образом, показывая такие же ролики, сообщали о встроенной поддержке 3D печати в Windows 8, что-то я от этой особой выгоды не ощущаю. При необходимости, то, что нужно для трехмерной печати или работы HoloLens, я уверен, можно установить и отдельно, а необходимость такая возникает не так уж и часто.
Примечание: учитывая, что Xbox One будет работать на Windows 10, возможно, именно для этой консоли появятся какие-то интересные игры, поддерживающие технологию HoloLens и там это пригодится.
Игры в Windows 10
Интересное для игроков: помимо DirectX 12, о котором ниже, в Windows 10 появится встроенная возможность записывать игровое видео, комбинация клавиш Windows+G для записи последних 30 секунд игры, а также более тесная интеграция игр Windows и Xbox, включая сетевые игры и стриминг игр с Xbox на ПК или планшет с Windows 10 (то есть вы сможете играть в игру, запущенную на Xbox на другом устройстве).
DirectX 12
В Windows 10 будет интегрирована новая версия игровых библиотек DirectX. Microsoft сообщает, что прирост производительности в играх составит до 50%, а потребление энергии сократится вдвое.
Выглядит нереально. Быть может сочетание: новые игры, новые процессоры (Skylake, например) и DirectX 12 и дадут в результате нечто подобное заявленному, да и то не верится. Посмотрим: если через год-полтора появится ультрабук, на котором можно будет часов 5 играть в GTA 6 (я знаю, что такой игры нет) от батареи, значит правда.
Стоит ли обновляться
Я считаю, что с выходом финальной версии Windows 10 обновиться на нее стоит. Для пользователей Windows 7 она принесет более высокую скорость загрузки, более совершенные функции безопасности (кстати, какие будут в этом плане отличия от 8 пока не знаю), возможность сброса компьютера без переустановки ОС вручную, встроенную поддержку USB 3.0 и не только. Все это в относительно привычном интерфейсе.
Пользователям Windows 8 и 8.1, думаю, тоже будет полезным обновиться и получить более доработанную систему (наконец-то панель управления и изменение параметров компьютера свели в одно место, мне разделение казалось нелепым все это время) с новыми функциями. Я, например, давно уже ждал виртуальных рабочих столов в Windows.
Точно о дате выхода неизвестно, но, предположительно, осенью 2015.
