Windows 7 64-bit, with both Python3.4 and Python2.7 installed at some point

I’m using Py.exe to route to Py2 or Py3 depending on the script’s needs — but I previously improperly uninstalled Python27 before.

Py27 was removed manually from C:pythonPython27 (the folder Python27 was deleted by me previously)

Upon re-installing Python27, it gave the above error you specify.
It would always back out while trying to ‘remove shortcuts’ during the installation process.

I placed a copy of Python27 back in that original folder, at C:PythonPython27, and re-ran the same failing Python27 installer. It was happy locating those items and removing them, and proceeded with the install.

This is not the answer that addresses registry key issues (others mention that) but it is somewhat of a workaround if you know of previous installations that were improperly removed.

You could have some insight to this by opening «regedit» and searching for «Python27» — a registry key appeared in my command-shell Cache pointing at c:pythonpython27 (which had been removed and was not present when searching in the registry upon finding it).

That may help point to previously improperly removed installations.

Here is a step-by-step visual guide to uninstall Python from your Windows 10 machine.

Step 1 — Navigate to Control Panel

How to Uninstall Python on Windows, Mac and Linux

Uninstalling Python on Windows is an easy task. You just need to follow some steps and you are good to go.

Below are the steps to uninstall Python from Windows.

Open Control Panel
Click on Uninstall a Program
Scroll down till you see the installed Python version and Select it and click uninstall for each version.

Once you are done with the above step, you are left with one final step; Removing it from Path.

Although the python uninstaller removes itself from the path, it’s recommended to manually check the path to be sure.

To remove Python from the system path, follow the below steps and it will be removed permanently.

Click on the Windows button and search “Environment Variables“.
In the Environment Variables window, click on Path variable in the system variable section, click the edit button.
Look for the path of the Python bin folder and remove it from the path.

And you are done. This is going to Uninstall Python from the Windows machine.

Uninstall Python on Mac

Mac ships with Python pre-installed and it is a very bad idea of uninstalling them.

If you try to uninstall the pre-installed Python v2.7 or above, it may break your operating system. I recommend not touching it.

If you’ve installed any third party python framework, you can follow the below steps.

Open your terminal and paste the below commands.

sudo rm -rf /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7

Remove the Python 2.7 applications directory

sudo rm -rf "/Applications/Python 2.7"

Remove the symbolic links, that point to this Python version. See them using

ls -l /usr/local/bin | grep '../Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7'

and then run the following command to remove all the links:

cd /usr/local/bin/ ls -l /usr/local/bin | grep '../Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7' | awk '{print $9}' | tr -d @ | xargs rm

Uninstall Python on Linux (Ubuntu)

The same problem may arise if you’ll try to uninstall pre-installed Python in your Linux/Ubuntu. It is not recommended to remove the default Python from Ubuntu.

It can cause the Graphical Display Manager to fail because of uninstalling Python.

You can only uninstall Python which you installed manually.

Below is the command for uninstalling Python.

# Remove python2

sudo apt purge -y python2.7-minimal

# You already have Python3 but

# don’t care about the version

sudo ln -s /usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/python

# Same for pip

sudo apt install -y python3-pip

sudo ln -s /usr/bin/pip3 /usr/bin/pip

# Confirm the new version of Python: 3

python —version

Sometimes you also have to update your apt repo list. Here is the command for the same.

sudo apt get update

Немогу удалить пайтон, по незнанию просто удалил папку с пайтоном, сейчас пробую через uninstall setup но выбивает no python 3.8 instalation was detected и ошибку 0х80070643 — в процесе установки произошла неисправимая ошибка

попробуй заново поставить, и удалить «правильно»
пробовал поставить другую версию но говорит что надо сначала удалить старую версию, а у меня не 1 версия а 2 установлено, намутил фигни
Попробуйте сделать восстановление системы.
а собственно как это сделать
если запустить новую установку пайтона там будет пункт Custom, возможно там есть что-то типа unistall или fix installation
Foxrey, ставить нужно такую же версию как и была

Python is uninstalled differently in Windows and Mac.

Windows

To uninstall Python from Windows, follow these steps:

Navigate to Control Panel.
Click “Uninstall a program”, and a list of all the currently installed programs will display.
Select the Python version that you want to uninstall, then click the “Uninstall” button above the list – this has to be done for every Python version installed on the system.

Mac

For Python 3 and above, first, perform the following steps:

Go to the Finder.
Click on Applications in the menu on the left.
Find the Python folder with the version number you want to uninstall, right-click it, and select “Move to Trash”.

Depending upon the process of installation, Python may or may not be present in the Applications folder. If it’s not perform the steps in the next section.

Removing additional files from the Terminal

Moving the Python application to trash will not remove Python entirely. Furthermore, a built-in Python distribution may not appear in the Applications folder. So we’ll have to use the Terminal to uninstall it manually.

First, open the Activity Monitor and close all processes related to Python in the Memory tab. One such process is the Python Launcher. Now we can proceed to the Terminal.

Open the Terminal and navigate to your Library folder from your root directory:

＄ (base) Username:~ cd Library

Here, you can list the current folders in your Library using the ls command. Look for a folder named Python. Remove this folder with super-user privileges:

sudo rm -rf Python

Note: The operation requires your password in order to be completed.

Additionally, three more main directories have to be handled in order to remove Python. Move back to your root user directory and perform the following commands:

sudo rm -rf “/Applications/Python”
sudo rm -rf /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/bin/python

Note: We do not recommend this step for novice Mac users. The way Python files are distributed in your Library and cache may differ based on your use, and so, extra files may have to be deleted which you can search for in the Finder or manually in the terminal.
