Resolving INS-20802: Oracle Net Configuration Assistant failed error on Windows 10

I was all excited about the migration to Windows 10 until I had to install Oracle client 12.1.0.2 on it. The Oracle client installation used to fail miserably at the last stage with this error named INS-20802.

As with several Oracle error messages, the details were hardly of any use and no clear understanding was possible even after examining the error log. Googling for the error led me to several forum posts but most of them didn’t have the right solution — most answer seekers were meeting with dead ends.

I tried several methods for resolving the issue — 

  1. Disabling Windows UAC
  2. Disabling firewall
  3. Disabling antivirus — mine was a fresh VM, so disabled Windows Defender
  4. Adding localhost IP i.e., 127.0.0.1 to the hosts file etc.

but none of them helped.

During the installation of SES, you may come across an error “[INS-20802] Oracle Net Configuration Assistant failed.”

This error is due to conflict between a declared environment variable and a configuration value provided during the installation. The variable usually causing this is “ORACLE_HOME”

You can get further details of this issue from the log file located at

C:Program FilesOracleInventorylogsinstallActionsyyyy-mm-dd_hh-mm-ss*.log

Further Details

Go to the bottom of the log file and you will see messages like

Resolution

Delete the Environment Variable “ORACLE_HOME” and you can do a Retry, but most likely the installation wizard will continue to throw the same error. The best option to to deinstall Oracle SES so that everything is clean again. Try to install it again.

I can’t install Oracle Database, because I have error

[INS-20802] Oracle Database Configuration Assistant failed

  1. disable UAC
  2. Disable antivirus
  3. Install Microsft vc 2010 x32

  5. root for perl.exe

Look into your %Program Files%OracleInventorylogs where you will find the reason for error.

I also encountered similar problem where I installed Oracle 18c XE,

Oracle Database 18c we are introduced to a new concept: Image Based Installation.

In Image Based Installation the Oracle Universal Installer of 18c takes the location of our setup.exe file and assigns it as its db_home location. That’s why before we start extracting the content of this file, we first need to decide where we want to create our db_home directory.

Mistake I made was I had the setup.exe in D://drive and for others location left as default(which is C:/ drive)

Solution:

  1. Copy and extract the entire folder which contain setup.exe in C://
    Drive.
  2. Manually remove all the files in in C:/Program Files/Oracle
    (including Oracle folder)
  3. Run the setup.exe as Administrator
  4. Leave the other configuration paths as default

(Additional : Satisfy following condition when configuring the password

Oracle recommends the following guidelines when prompted for a password.

  • Contains at least one lowercase letter.
  • Contains at least one uppercase letter.
  • Contains at least one digit.
  • Is at least 8 characters in length.
  • Uses the database character set, which can include the underscore (_), dollar ($), and pound sign (#) characters.
  • Should not be an actual word.

You can find in your logs:

SEVERE:  [Jan 18, 2019 4:32:04 PM] [FATAL] [INS-35955] The Database software home 
(C:ORACLESOURCE) is already registered in the central inventory. This tool can only be 
used in a non-registered Database home.
ACTION: Choose a different location as Oracle home.

Try install Oracle in another directory.

Ошибка журнала: ошибка [INS-20802] при установке Oracle.

окружение:

  • Windows10 Professional 64-разрядная
  • Исходный сжатый пакет 1: win64_11gR2_database_1of2.zip

  • PLSQL Developer 13 (64 bit)

Первая установка: успешно

  1. Перед установкой были полностью удалены Oracle, PLSQL и Instantclient.
  2. Установлен Oracle согласно руководству по установке, упомянутому выше.
  3. Установить Instantclient
  4. Установить PLSQL

Результат: Oracle успешно установлен, а PLSQL успешно подключен к Oracle.

После установки я обнаружил, что у Oracle есть собственный мгновенный клиент, поэтому у меня было обсессивно-компульсивное расстройство. Я собирался удалить мгновенный клиент, который устанавливался неоднократно. В результате я поступил глупо и даже удалил Oracle в интерфейсе удаления ( Кто бы мог подумать, что эти два парня появились на одном интерфейсе) Итак, согласно руководству по удалению, упомянутому выше, Oracle был полностью удален, независимо от работы по очистке после удаления повторной установки Instantclient, а PLSQL не был удален.

Вторая установка: не удалось

На этот раз я установил Oracle только в соответствии с инструкцией. После сбоя я не проверял файл журнала. Я ошибочно подумал, что во время последнего удаления чего-то не хватало. Поэтому я снова выполнил полное удаление и подготовился к третьей установке. В последний раз я тоже очищал.Удалите остатки Instantclient, не удаляя PLSQL.

Третья установка: не удалось

Затем я проверил Baidu и Google и не нашел решения этой проблемы.

Чтобы полностью восстановить состояние компьютера, когда он был впервые установлен, я удалил PLSQL Developer 13, но не ожидал этого! ! ! [INS-20802] Ничего! Прошло! Только на этот раз есть еще одна небольшая проблема, но она не влияет на программу, чтобы запросить успешную установку! После этого установите PLSQL. При установке Oracle database 11g, на 11 шаге возникла ошибка:

INS-20802: Oracle Net Configuration Assistant failed
Cause — The plug-in failed in its perform method
Action — Refer to the logs or contact Oracle Support Services. Log File Location

Аналогичная ошибка и была при установке СУБД Oracle на Windows тут. Но судя по ошибке в логе, проблема здесь возникла не из-за переменной среды.

При этом, IP машины на котором запущена инсталляция совершенно другая (172.*.*.*).

Решение:

В файле etc/hosts добавить/изменить на корректное название и IP адрес сервера.

В моем случае было так:

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4

::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6

Поэтому пришлось добавить строку с IP адресом сервера:

172.*.*.* dbserver38

Итог etc/hosts выглядит так:

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4

::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6

172.*.*.* dbserver38
