About Hardware IDs

A device Hardware ID (HWID) is a set of numbers and letters that uniquely identifies any device. For example, different models of Motherboards, Graphics Cards, Printers and Network Interface Cards would have their own unique Hardware ID.

Hardware IDs are useful because they help identify the manufacturer and model of every hardware device inside, or attached to, your computer.

While a particular device driver is associated with specific Hardware ID, that driver may be compatible with other devices as well. In that case, the INF file would identify one or more Hardware IDs as an exact match, and provide a list of Compatible Hardware IDs for that driver. In many cases, the Compatible Hardware IDs will look similar, with the identifier having only minor variations, particularly in the Device ID portion.

How to Install Drivers

Once you download your new driver, then you need to install it. To install a driver in Windows, you will need to use a built-in utility called Device Manager. It allows you to see all of the devices recognized by your system, and the drivers associated with them.

Open Device Manager

In Windows 10 & Windows 8.1, right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager

Install Drivers With Device Manager

Select the Driver tab.

Click the Update Driver button and follow the instructions.

In most cases, you will need to reboot your computer in order for the driver update to take effect.

I have no network

I have a problem with my network.

My operating system is a windows 7 Professional x64 bit.

You need this driver for that device, and it will not solve the network issue.

This package contains the Intel Active Client Manager Host Embedded Controller Interface (HECI) device driver for the supported desktop models and operating systems.

Your ethernet chip is missing from the device manager. Probably a hardware failure.

If the ethernet device needed a driver, you should be seeing a device labeled as an Ethernet Controller.

You need this driver for that device, and it will not solve the network issue.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to use the driver directly from Intel if the one on the dc5800 support page didn’t work.

The 2nd driver down on the left side of the page is for 64 bit.

I would like to try the drivers from the dc5800 support page but there are 7 drivers on the network tab, for win7 pro x64 and i don’t know if i need to install all of them or just one.

When i tried to install the driver from Intel, i got this:

(The sound is ok. I had no cables pluged in this time.)

The message from the picture above was:

Intel(R) Network Connections Installer Information

Cannot install drivers. No Intel(R) Adapters are present in this computer.

I don’t know what to look for to get the lan working again.

If your device manager does not have an ethernet controller showing up as in your first screenshot, then the power failure blew out the ethernet chip.

I would suggest getting an external USB to RJ-45 10/100/1000 ethernet adapter or an internal PCI ethernet adapter.

It’s not a driver problem if there is no ethernet controller listed as needing a driver, like there was the PCI Simple Communications controller.

It happens a lot when you have a power failure or power surge.
