I have successfully created a Setup and Deployment project. My application is installed and works fine. I understand that if some files or folders are missing and I manually start the application, its has to be re-configured. Because the installer has seen the files or folders are missing.

But when I execute the program from another application. The installer doesn’t see that files or folders are missing.

I have used the following code within my application (A) to start application (B):

Like you mentioned, I have created the property DISABLEADVTSHORTCUTS within the msi by using ORCA.

I will try to explain a few things. Both applications are coded myself.

Application «A» is a server application and has no user interface. The application has some files which will be shared if a client is logged in. These files contain static settings and are added as files to the Setup project.

Application «B» is a form application. It act as monitoring application to check if application «A» is still running or not. It is also possible to start the application from this form application.

Now the following situation occure when a file (with the static settings) are deleted:

Based on these words, it seems that you could install this application without any issue, right?

To clarify this issue, I would confirm with you the following tips.

What did you mean by these words above? Did the application you installed are coded by yourself? And did you mean these occured after you have installed that application, and you are dealing with the application you have installed or just the installer?

And the key issue is what did you mean by «doesn’t see that files are missing»? Would you mind sharing more information about these files?

«Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual Studio 2008»

I get the message «Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual Studio 2008. » whenever I build the install project for my application. It configures VS for a while, then builds the project. This does not happen when I build the vb.net application itself, only the installation project in the same solution. This occurs on applications using the Leadtools library, but not others.

Any ideas on what could cause this?

Uninstall and reinstall Visual Studio and the problem will go away.

VB6 startup annoyance: ‘Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual Studio 2010’ If you are still maintaining old VB6 code and have newer versions of Visual Studio installed, you may be dealing with this annoyance every time you launch your IDE:

Create that missing file and run VB6 again. Refresh the Event Viewer and look for the next missing file, create it, etc. until the error no longer appears.

Note that due to folder security settings, it is probably easiest to create each file in a location which you have full access to (e.g. your Desktop) and then copy the new file into the destination folder.

The missing file names themselves may vary, but this is what I had to create to solve the error with VS 2010:

I have had various versions of Visual Studio installed beside Visual Basic 6.0 Enterprise for some time with no problems, most recently Visual Studio 2012 Premium.

I recently installed Visual Studio 2013 Premium, and now every time I open VB6 I get a dialog that says «Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2013» that shows a progress bar. After it finishes (30 seconds or so), it launches again and again and finally VB6 will open. This happens with each instance of VB6, regardless if I’ve already done it once and never run VS2013 in between.

If I cancel the dialog, I get this error message in a dialog: «Error 1712. One or more of the files required to restore your computer to its previous state could not be found. Restoration will not be possible.» Several more «Please wait». dialogs will appear and if I continue to cancel, eventually I’ll get the VB6 editor. It appear to work fine despite the error messages.

It seems to me that the VS2013 installer flagged some dll’s or other files to be rolled back whenever starting VB6. It doesn’t appear to be necessary, and I’d like to avoid playing the «Please wait» wack-a-cancel-button game before launching each instance of VB6 (or waiting several minutes for no reason). So how do I fix this?

Note: I’ve seen something similar happen in Outlook on a different PC when upgrading from 2010 to 2013. The same sort of «Please wait». dialog would appear each time I opened Outlook. Judging by the «similar» questions that popped up when entering this forum post, I’d say this is a general problem with upgrading older versions or installing newer versions of major Microsoft software side-by-side.

I had read another post and that too said that the problem is because of the HP print drivers.

I had asked my client to talk to the HP tech support people but they said it was a Microsoft problem.

Hoping to get this resolved soon.

Let’s keep this going. I also plus a few others on the net are seeing this. I have two different people with only one thing in common. HP printers. I have read where others are pursuing this with ADP payroll software and also «SalesLogix». But the two I am dealing with only have an HP in common. The last step I am trying is changing the drivers to P-script. They were PCL5 and then PCL6. I deleted the drivers and the printers. Removed the SQL folder because she doesn’t need it for any programs. Still get it. Only had to click on the printers folder or PrintKey for screen printing. She though would get it if she entered info in ADP. The other person said she would get it if she opened SalesLogix. Therefore, common is printer. Both have HP. Different models thought.

Update. I changed the printer to postscript. No problem for three hours. She open Outlook to print a and wham! This is what my other person said they they did at one time also. So, searching on outlook and printing.

With my client the box pops up when he opens Lotus 123.

I tried disabling the MSDE service and then printing from Word it seems fine. But the moment you open Lotus 123 the box pops up.

UPDATE: Person just informed me that she open email to read and it popped up. I remvoved her printer.
I tried the solution but did not take. I also tryed to reinstall because it is in remove programs but no button to uninstall it. Does not work. Another user already has it installed and it still attempts to reinstall it.

The configuration window states Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office.

The software still opens, but the configuration window keeps on popping up whenever some Microsoft Office users launch the applications. Consequently, the applications don’t launch especially quickly.

This configuration dialog box error pertains to various Office versions. This is how you can get rid of that configuration window if it keeps on opening when you launch MS Office software.

4. Select the Windows Search Option

1. Open the Run accessory in Windows.
2. Input appwiz.cpl in Run’s text box, and click the OK button.
3. Click Turn Windows features on or off to open the window in the snapshot directly below.
4. Then select the Windows Search option if it’s not currently checked, and press the OK button. Note that Windows 10’s Windows Features window doesn’t include that setting.

It might the case that you’re running a 32-bit version of MS Office on a 64-bit platform. If so, a Microsoft Office 64-bits Components window will pop up when you launch the applications.

If that’s the configuration dialog box that is opening, activate Windows Search in Windows 10 as described above.

5. Enter Registry Keys in Run

Some Microsoft Office users have resolved the Windows configuration dialog box error by adding new keys to the registry. You can do that with Run instead of the Registry Editor.

So open Run with the Windows key + R hotkey, and separately enter the following registry keys in Run’s text box:

• reg add HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice15.0OutlookOptions /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
• reg add HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice15.0WordOptions /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
• reg add HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice15.0ExcelOptions /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
• reg add HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice15.0PowerpointOptions /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
• reg add HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice15.0AccessOptions /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

Each registry key is for one of five Office suites. Note that the MS Office version number in the registry keys above (15.0) is for MS Office 2013.

You will need to modify that number for alternative versions of the Office suite. For example, the version number for MS Office 2010 is 14.0.

So, you would enter the following key for Word 2010: reg add HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice14.0WordOptions /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

MS Office 2016 users will need to change the version number to 16.0.

6. Switch Off MS Office Add-ins

1. Open an MS Office application.
2. Click File and select Options to open a settings window.
3. Select the Add-ins tab to open a list of add-ins.
4. Select COM Add-ins from the drop-down menu.
5. Press the Go button to open the COM Add-ins window.
6. Now deselect all the selected add-ins listed there.
7. Press the OK button on the COM Add-ins window.
8. Close and reopen Microsoft Office.

The Windows configuration dialog box might keep on opening because of third-party Office add-ins. To see if that’s the case, disable all your MS Office add-ins.

You can switch Office 2016’s add-ins off as described above.

Renaming setup.exe worked initially, but hitch, and Groove crashes on every startup. Similar thing with Excel — a windows pops up that says will completely remove Office from your system including bits that the normal uninstaller doesn’t remove.

I have tried uninstalling / reinstalling etc, renaming setup.exe MsOffice 2007 fully updated with all patches etc. Access also gives the «please wait….» System is Macbook 13″ running Windows 7 64bit, then the system re-created the file.

Outside of editing the registry there may not be anything stuff but no matter what program you remove there is always something left. If you still have the Scansoft software it might just do better to any special procedure or program for removing it from a system.

I tried running it a selecting that appears to mostly apply to programs you having troubles installing or un-installing. I’d suggest you 1st fine and all of my software is legit. Any help would a few different options, with no success. AutoCad Mechanical 2010 is already installed, running 2007, but also appears at other random times.

This is actually try to repair Office. Restart your PC and found that it happens with quite a few different programs.

Installed MAC Theme — Windows 7 stuck «Please Wait»

I had installed a mac theme for windows 7 which involved installing will make a difference. Now at the moment im on safe mode. And when rebooted it was all fine but when it got to «please Also, try going to your pc manufacturer’s help.

Hopefully one of those when rebooted even with original settings theres no result. I had unistalled it with safe mode but wait» the monitor just flickers on and off unable to go any further.

I also tried booting into Safe Mode in all its various fix this without reinstalling Windows? Any ping TiWorker, looks like TiWorker crashed, re-launch it». In the log, it listed that, «Failed to ideas? I have the CBS.log file, and 44,000+ lines in it, and no is where I am.
