What’s New
Searching for ‘show all 3 power plans in tray software’? Congratulations, you just have found a comprehensive solution. Power Plan Assistant for Windows is an ultimate manual / automatic power plan switcher and a compact (yet very informative) system Power icon replacement. It’s the multiple award-winning, the world’s smartest power management tool.
Power Plan Assistant was designed to work with all Windows x86 / x64 compatible hardware, plus it can (optionally) install the unique features, available for a Boot Camp-enabled Apple Macbook Pro / Macbook Air notebooks running Windows.
Power Plan Assistant application can be considered as «donationware»: it’s totally free to use, although the users are welcome to support the development by making a voluntary donation. Every donator receives the permanent Personal Serial Number for Power Plan Assistant tool!
Power Plan Assistant allows a user to:
- Quickly switch between the Windows built-in and custom power plans (3 system plans + all custom plans, so forget about the system Power icon limitations);
- Easily see which power plan is currently active (dynamic application’s icon1 in the taskbar notification area changes in accordance with an active power plan, does not matter where the plans were switched — in a Control Panel, through the system Power icon or in the Power Plan Assistant itself);
- 1User may choose between the three types of the dynamic notification area icon in taskbar. One of the available icons CAN REPLACE THE SYSTEM POWER ICON COMPLETELY: it displays more information (battery level, active power plan, power source) and offers much higher precision than the system icon.
- Instantly power off the display on user’s demand (why wait at least one minute for it to be powered off, wasting the energy?). The display can be waked up then by pressing any key or moving the cursor;
- Switch the power plans automatically:
- to ‘Power Saver’ (to preventively save the energy if the battery level goes low);
- to ‘High Performance’ or ‘Balanced’ (on plugging in);
- to ‘Power Saver’ or ‘Balanced’ (on unplugging).
- Instantly power off the display, lock workstation or toggle Windows Flip 3D mode without a need to perform even a single click: the user-configurable action fires on placing the cursor precisely at the top left corner of the screen.
- Run a user-defined application or a batch file if power plan changes (individual setting per each power plan is available). This enriches Power Plan Assistant with virtually infinite capabilities. For example, you can tie your favorite overclocking software preset to an active power plan, turn off specific devices, etc.
- Optional features (for Boot Camp-enabled Apple Macbook Pro / Air notebooks):
- Power Plan Assistant brings the Apple Macbook Pro / Air keyboard backlight management to a new level, allowing the user to disable keyboard backlight completely or just disable / enable automatic keyboard backlight level adjustment. These features were previously available on Mac OS X only. Power Plan Assistant brings them to both the 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, at the same time preserving all of Boot Camp’s native hardware controls (no driver-level conflicts, thus no need to unload the ‘Bootcamp.exe’ or ‘KbdMgr.exe’ process).
- Apple Macbook Pro / Air family, unlike any other notebooks on the market, do not have the hardware Wi-Fi / Bluetooth button (the toggle). Power Plan Assistant offers you to turn on / off the wireless adapters quickly and easily, directly from its ‘left-click’ actions menu. This feature is a real Boot Camp power saver. Now you can keep wireless adapters on only when you actually need the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity.
What’s New:
- Power Plan Assistant now comes with an optional system Power icon replacement — a totally new, compact, yet very clear and informative tray icon
Fast servers and clean downloads. Tested on TechSpot Labs. Here’s why you can trust us.

FIX: Windows 10 power plans are missing
Windows 10 power plans disappeared, how do I bring them back?
In Windows, a power plan is a set of hardware and system options that defines how power is used and preserved by your device.
The three built-in power plans include: Balanced, Power Saver and High Performance. All these can be customized for your systems, or you can create new plans based on the existing ones, or a completely new power plan from scratch.
Balanced plan offers full performance when needed, and saves the power when you don’t need it. Power saver, on the other hand saves your power by reducing performance and screen brightness. High performance maximizes your screen brightness and my increase performance; it uses more energy.
There’s another power plan: Ultimate performance. This is only available by default in Windows 10 Pro for Workstations edition starting with build 17101 for ultimate performance on higher end computers.
Any changes you make to the settings of any power plan affects all users that chose the same plan as their default power scheme.
For Windows 10, a new user interface allows you to change the power related options. The classic Control Panel is losing its features and may be replaced in entirety by the Settings app which already has most settings from the control pane.
However, Settings doesn’t have the ability to delete a power plan yet, so you’re still stuck with Control Panel.
While all this is said and done, sometimes, much to your dismay, you may notice that in Power Options, one of the power plan or plans goes missing. You’ve probably even searched the web for solutions and none of them worked to restore the power plans.
Here are some solutions you can try that will help you get back your Windows 10 missing power plans.
What to do if Windows 10 power plans aren’t showing up?
1. Use Powercfg tool
2. Create a Power Plan
3. Restore default power plans
4. Import a Power Plan
5. Check Power Options settings
If you find Windows 10 missing power plans, check the following:
Check if your power plans are there. It includes the Additional Power Settings link under Related Settings.
6. Run Power Troubleshooter
7. Change Registry settings
Did any of these solutions help bring back your Windows 10 missing power plans? Let us know in the comments box below.

(Windows 7, Windows 10)
Driver Booster Power Plan —
Windows.
Driver Booster —
DevID Agent.

Fix Only Balanced Power Plan Available in Windows 10
How to Fix Only Balanced Power Plan Available in Windows 10
By default, Windows 10 includes power plans like High Performance, Balanced, Power Saver, etc. These plans are designed to quickly let you switch a group of hardware and system power settings (like display, sleep, etc). Sometimes only the balanced power plan is available in Windows 10 power options. Here is how to fix this.
Your PC can have additional power plans defined by its vendor. Also, you can create a custom power plan that will include your personal preferences. These power settings affect how long your battery lasts and how much power your PC consumes. It is possible to customize these power plan settings using advanced power options.
Windows 10 comes with a new UI again to change the operating system’s power related options. The classic Control Panel is losing its features and probably will be replaced by the Settings app. The Settings app has already got many options which were exclusively available in the Control Panel. The battery notification area icon in the Windows 10 system tray was also replaced with a new Modern UI.
If you have a modern PC, you may be surprised to find that the only available Power Plan is Balanced. All other power schemes are hidden and not available anywhere in the GUI.
Power Plans are missing
The reason behind this issue is that modern PCs use a new power efficient technology, known as S0 Low Power Standby, or Modern Standby.
It is a special Sleep State that enables an instant on / instant off user experience, similar to smartphone power models. Just like the phone, the S0 low power idle model enables the system to stay up-to-date whenever a suitable network is available.
Although Modern Standby enables an instant on/off user experience like Connected Standby, Modern Standby is more inclusive than the Windows 8.1 Connected Standby power model. Modern Standby allows for market segments previously limited to the S3 power model to take advantage of the low power idle model. Example systems include systems based on rotational media and hybrid media (for example, SSD + HDD or SSHD) and/or a NIC that doesn’t support all of the prior requirements for Connected Standby.
When the hardware supports this modern Standby mode, the motherboard firmware (e.g. BIOS) may exclusively stick to that mode, and prevent other power modes from being reported to the OS. That is not a bug, it is by design. If you need to use other Power plans in Windows 10, you need to reconfigure the firmware of your device’s motherboard.
To Fix Only Balanced Power Plan Available in Windows 10
Note: The Other OS option is actually designed to allow you to install some other OS, like Linux. It might or might not interfere with the Secure Boot option, and UEFI boot mode. It actually depends on the current firmware implementation of the specific device. If you run into trouble after changing the option, revert the changes back.

Do modern PCs have SSDs instead of HDDs?
Many of them have SSDs instead of HDDs.
I was looking at the power settings in the Control Panel, because I wanted to disable suspend when lid closed when plugged in.
After doing that, I clicked “Save changes”, and High Performance was there, along with Balanced (which was selected).
Then, I clicked on the battery icon, set it to all the way to the right, and High Performance was still there. Then, I closed Control Panel.
Later, I opened it again, and there was only Balanced.
And powercfg /a says that S0 is not supported by the firmware*.
* There’s quite a bit of backstory.
after all, the stupid ‘technician’ that cleaned the cooler decided to format the HDD¹,
without backing up the other partitions or even the hidden folders on Windows.
And he also “fixed” the BIOS [this is a Vostro 3560, with a very option-rich BIOS (well, until he broke it)], flashing a stupid BIOS with just basic options.
He installed Windows 10, as well as Firefox, Avast Secure Browser, Opera, Chrome (why so many browsers. ), VLC, Nero, CyberLink (why so many video stuff)…
Well, at least he installed Avast and Office 2019.
¹[I was using Puppy Linux, therefore I deleted System32 because it wasn’t needed, and I was using a live CD to boot and load the save on the HDD. I removed the CD so he could safely remove the lid, but he couldn’t boot to check the temperature. Therefore, he thought something else was broken and formatted the whole drive and made a single partition.]
Months earlier (I was still using Windows by that point), I sent the same computer to another technician from the same shop.
The screen had a glitched square on the far right, even when I started in safe mode. Because of a single wrong bit in the HDD’s firmware area, because of an error in the initial OEM write.
He replaced it, said “The HDD wasn’t talking [sic] to the motherboard correctly. I didn’t have any 1TB drive, so I copied the used part.” (And I explicitly said that he should use the Linux ‘dd’ command, which he clearly didn’t.)
The time I sent the computer to clean the cooler, I made sure to send it to the most experienced technician in the shop.

How to Restore Missing Power Plan Options on Windows 10
On Windows 10, Power Options allows you to customize your Power Usage – as per requirements. Technically, a power plan is a set of hardware and system settings that defines how power is used and preserved by your computer. There are three built-in power plans: Balanced, Power Saver and High Performance. They can be customised for your system, or you can create new plans based on them.
What Causes Power Options to go Missing?
Many users have reported variations of missing power plans, such as only balance power plan is available and the high performance power plan is missing. This could be due to a system corruption or a Windows Update recently installed which may have modified the registry or tweaked the power options.
We have gathered some working solutions so make sure you try them out. Good luck!
Solution 1: Restore Them Manually
If a Windows Update or something else you did has removed the power plans from your computer, you can get to them by running commands which will recreate them and have them available on your computer the same way as they were before. There are two ways you can do this and it depends on what you prefer.
Command Prompt:
You can restore the missing power plan settings simply by running several commands in Command Prompt.
Note: The last command can only work on Windows 10 versions after the 17101 build as it’s related to restoring the Ultimate Performance Power Plan available for the newest Windows 10 builds for workstations.
Download the Files Yourself:
You can download the required files easily from a guide made by TenForums and it contains the “.pow” files which are used to represent a power plan.
Solution 2: Use the Following Registry Hack
If a Windows Update has indeed hidden these options, it’s possible that Windows it trying to replace this feature or push it into the history by replacing it with other features. If you still wich to use this exact option, you can turn it on using the following registry hack.
Since you will have to edit a registry key, we recommend you check out this article we have made for you to safely backup your registry to prevent unwanted side effects which shouldn’t occur if you just follow the steps carefully.
Note: If this didn’t work out for you, you can try adding an option to show these power plans individually for every power plan your computer knows about.
Solution 3: A Useful Workaround
This workaround can be used quite easily if you want to add the power option which is missing quite easily. Since a new build of Windows usually only leaves the Balanced power plan intact, you can add it (or any other default plan) easily by creating a new plan which is exactly the same as this one.
Solution 4: Check for the New Battery Slider
From the latest build of Windows, it appears that the power options have now started to change for users who didn’t perform the steps above and everyone will get to see the new slider you can use to either set everything to high performance or to save battery life.
Also, these settings will now be managed through the Settings tool and not via Control Panel.

3. Switch the power plans automatically: to ‘Power Saver’ in order to start saving the energy before the battery power is gone (the threshold is user-configurable), to ‘High Performance’ or ‘Balanced’ (on plugging in), to ‘Balanced’ or ‘Power Saver’ (on unplugging).
4. Instantly power off the display, lock the workstation, etc., without a need to perform even a single click: the user-configurable action can fire on placing a cursor precisely at the top left corner of the screen (note: this is not available in Windows 8.x because it would conflict with Windows own usage of this ‘hot corner’).
5. >>NEW<< Run the user-defined application or a batch file if power plan changes (individual setting per each power plan is available). This enriches Power Plan Assistant with virtually infinite capabilities: for example, you can tie your favorite overclocking software preset to an active power plan, turn off specific devices, etc.

Even the balloon messages and the notification icon appearance / behavior can be customized. When application is started, please refer to ‘left-click’ actions menu, from where you can view and modify all of the available settings.

Boot Camp .
по требованию пользователя (зачем ждать, пока он отключится, тратя энергию?). Затем его можно разбудить нажатием любой клавиши или перемещением курсора;
соответствие плану активной мощности, не имеет значения, где план был изменен — в Панели управления, используя значок питания системы или сам помощник Power Plan);
