PlayStation Remote Play on PC and Mac 

With Remote Play, you can control your PlayStation® console remotely wherever you have a high-speed Internet connection.

Getting started with Remote Play on PC or Mac

Using the PS Remote Play app, you can control your PlayStation®5 console or PlayStation®4 console from a PC or Mac connected to a high-speed network. Check your PC or Mac meets the requirements and then follow the steps below to set up Remote Play.


Remote Play on PC or Mac requirements


You’ll need a Windows or Mac computer, and a PS5™ console or PS4™ console to control. Here are the requirement details:

Windows

  • OS: Windows 10 (32-bit or 64-bit) 
  • Processor: 7th Generation Intel® Core™ processors or later 
  • Storage space: 100 MB or more 
  • RAM: 2 GB or more 
  • Display resolution: 1024 × 768 or higher 
  • Sound card: Required 
  • USB port: Required

Mac

  • OS: macOS High Sierra, macOS Mojave, macOS Catalina, macOS Big Sur 
  • Storage space: 40 MB or more 
  • RAM: 2 GB or more 
  • USB port: Required

PS5™ console or PS4™ console

  • The latest system software
    Always update your console to the latest version of the system software.
  • An account for PlayStation™Network
    Use the same account that you use for your console. If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to create one first.
  • A high-speed Internet connection
    As a standard, we recommend a high-speed connection with upload and download speeds of at least 5 Mbps. For best performance, we recommend a high-speed connection with upload and download speeds of at least 15 Mbps.
  • A DualSense™ wireless controller for your PS5 console or DUALSHOCK®4 wireless controller for your PS4 console. You can connect via USB or pair your controller to a supported device using Bluetooth. Please visit the guides below for more information.
  • USB cable
    Please note that when using a wired connection, your controller’s built-in speaker and mic are not supported. 
  • A mic
    To use voice chat, you’ll need a microphone, such as the built-in microphone on your Windows PC or Mac.

Install the Remote Play app on your PC or Mac

You can use the same app to connect to your PS5 console and PS4 console.

  1. Download PS Remote Play.
  2. Run the installation file, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the app.

Set up your PS5 console for remote play 

You’ll only need to do this the first time you use Remote Play: 

  1. From the home screen, select Settings > System > Remote Play, and then turn on Enable Remote Play. 
  2. To start Remote Play while your PS5 console is in rest mode, select Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode. Then tick the boxes for Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.

Set up your PS4 console for remote play


You’ll only need to do this the first time you use Remote Play: 

  1. From the function screen, go to Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings, and then turn on Enable Remote Play. 
  2. From the function screen, go to Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4, and then select Activate. You can enable this setting on only one PS4 console for each account. 
  3. To start Remote Play while your PS4 console is in rest mode, select Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode. Then turn on Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS4 from Network.

Start Remote Play from your PC or Mac

You’ll take the following steps each time you connect to your PS5 console or PS4 console from your PC or Mac.

  1. Turn on your console or put it into rest mode. 
  2. Connect your controller to your PC or Mac. 
  3. Launch PS Remote Play app on your PC or Mac, and then select Sign In to PSN.
    Sign in with the same account that you use for your console. 
  4. When you select Settings, you can configure video quality settings for Remote Play such as resolution and frame rate. 
  5. Select PS5 or PS4.
    The app searches for the PS5 console or PS4 console that you’ve signed in to using your account, and then connects to the console automatically. After the app connects, the screen of your console displays on your PC or Mac and you can start using Remote Play. If multiple consoles are found, select the console that you’d like to use. 

From the second time onwards, you’ll be able to select the console that you connected to previously. 

If your console cannot connect to your computer automatically, you will be asked to manually register the console on your PC or Mac.

Manually register a console for Remote Play on PC or Mac 

  • PS5 console
    From the home screen of your PS5 console, select  Settings > System > Remote Play > Link Device, and a number displays.
  • PS4 console
    From the function screen on your PS4 console, select  Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings > Add Device, and a number displays.

Launch the Remote Play app on your PC or Mac. Enter the number displayed on the screen of your console to add the device to Remote Play.

Controls

If you connect your SIXAXIS or DualShock 3 controller to your PC before you
start Open Remote Play, it should be detected and automatically configured.
Remember to press the PlayStation button to activate the controller.

For Windows users, you require to download and install the DualShock driver:

Ensure that the controller is functioning properly by testing it using the
Game Controllers program found in the Control Panel.

The player currently implements these keyboard bindings:

Virtual keyboard:
NOTE: This is a hack and is bound to be buggy!

While you are in a PS3 text-input dialog, you can enter virtual keyboard mode
using CTRL-ENTER. The window caption will be appended with «Virtual Keyboard
Mode». While in this mode, keys pressed on your real keyboard are translated
in to D-Pad presses followed by X to speed up text entry. The right and left
arrow keys send L1/R1 and the ENTER key sends a line-break instead of X. Always
ensure that the letter ‘g’ is high-lighted before entering virtual keyboard
mode, or after you’ve moved the cursor manually.

To exit virtual keyboard mode, press CTRL-ENTER again.

There are no keyboard bindings for the following controller input:
The right/left analog sticks, L2, R2, L3, and R3.

NOTE: On Apple laptops, you may have to hold down the Fn key to access some of
the above keys.

The player currently implements the following mouse support:

While in full-screen mode, mouse motion deltas are sent as PSP D-Pad events
while the ALT key is held down. In window-mode, mouse motion does nothing.
The mouse buttons are mapped the same as when you plug a USB mouse in to the
PS3:

RIGHT BUTTON    Triangle
MIDDLE BUTTON   Home

WHEEL UP        D-Pad Up
WHEEL DOWN      D-Pad Down

Configuration

You require a PlayStation Portable (or access to one), that is able to run
homebrew software.

After installing the application on your PC, you need to import existing RP
settings from a registered PSP. The steps are as follows:

  1. If you have not done so already, register your PSP with your PS3 for
    Remote Play.

  2. Copy the ORP_Export folder to your PSP under /PSP/GAME

  3. Run Open Remote Play Export on your PSP. This will create a file on the
    memory stick called export.orp. Copy this file to your PC.

  4. Run the ORP GUI and click on Import, locate and import export.orp. You
    will have to manually change the IP address of your PS3, by default it
    will be set to 0.0.0.0.

    You can find your PS3’s IP address from the XMB under:
    Settings > Network Settings > Setting & Connection Status List

  5. Click Import again, this time locate and import keys.orp. You only have
    to do this once for a new installation, or if there is a key update.

  6. Select a profile, cross your fingers, and click Launch!

NOTE: You can duplicate a profile by changing the PS3 Name and clicking Save.
This is useful if you wish to keep two profiles, one for the local LAN, and
another for Internet connections.
