I’m having the following problem. Our backups are failing with the following error:
In the backup logs, I find:
In the event viewer, I find:
The backup operation that started at ‘?2010?-?05?-?24T21:51:56.331072200Z’ has failed with following error code ‘2155347997’ (The operation ended before completion.). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.
And on the command line, wbadmin returns:
This is very frustrating. The more I use Windows built-in backup the more fragile it seems to be. The D drive is a local drive and the path is valid. Running check disk finds no problems. The drive is mostly empty. I tried with and without the anti-virus software, same problem. There are no other server errors to indicate a problem with the drive or the path. I ran vssadmin list writers, and none of them returned any errors. Why would the backup return an invalid path error, for a path that is valid? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apologies for the delay. Can you pl. collect the inbox backup traces under %windir%LogsWindowsServerBackup*.etl and send them across to:
Thanks for getting back to me!
I’ll try to mail them to you before the end of the week.
A quick question: if the backup failed to find and copy a single file or directory (for whatever reason), why does it abort the whole process? The file in question was not critical, so having it missing from the backup would only have been a minor inconvenience.
Obviously, you want to log such an event very clearly, but it does not make sense to me for it to kill the whole process. Will this be improved in future versions? I have to admit, I’ve not seen much backup software stop because of such a trivial error, except maybe «copy» from the command prompt.
I think the built-in Window Server 2008 R2 backup software is very promising, and overall, I like it better than the old NT Backup crud. However, f rom my limited use, it still seems rough around the edges; too many glitches and problems, something you don’t want to see from your backup software.

I have it narrowed down to the key

with only a single backslash at the beginning. It is set correctly in AD and works fine when logging into XP and was working in Windows 7 but quit working recently. If I manually change it, it gets changed back on reboot. I thought it might be and NVIDIA problem, but I have changed to an ATI card and I still have the issue. I am out of ideas. Can anyone help?

Question
— 2008 R2 Standard SP1 File Server
— 2008 R2 functional domain level. Domain controllers are separate servers from the file server here.
— 500GB iSCSI LUN attached. Partitioned into D: (300GB) D:DataABCD (100GB) D:DataWXYZ (100GB)
DFS is setup like this:
\domain.localtest and it points to D:DataTest
\domain.localabcd and it points to D:DataABCD
Now i am trying to add another namespace: \domain.localwyxz and point it to D:DataWXYZ, but when i go to add the namespace it comes back with «the specified path is invalid»
If i change the mount point for this 100GB partition to D:WXYZ i get the same error. If remove that mount point and assign a drive letter, i have no issues creating the DFS namespace, but i would rather not do that if i don’t have to.
Any ideas on what i am doing wrong? TIA.
Answers
easy answer: I suffered with the same behavior in the past. DFS Namespace CANNOT be created in a drive that is mounted into another. Need to be a letter, in short, DFS namespace cannot be created over a NTFS junction point.
I run this problem and got sad when discovered the reality. so no mount points with DFS-N. here the info http://support.microsoft.com/kb/867712
I hope it answers your question. If yes please Mark it as an Answer. Thx

In my test I got the same result in the first time to point \domain.localabcd to c:abcd (mount point).
So I would like to know if the steps to create the «abcd» is the same as the «wyxz», as I failed in the start.
Meanwhile if we create a namespace like \domain.localshare, and create subfolders named abcd and wyxz, which point to the mount points is fine.

shaon:
the steps to create wxyz and abcd were the same
coffeinenerd:
hm, does that apply to 2008/2008 R2 as well? i am still not sure that is what is happening. but i’ve now just tested adding a new namespace to d:datamnop but instead of mounting an ntfs partition to that folder, i just created an empty folder on the d drive. when i create a new namespace to domain.localmnop i get the error: \domain.localmnop: the namespace server \servernamemnop cannot be added. do not attach the filter to the volume at this time.
Yes, 2008/2008 R2 has the same limitations. I tried it thousand times when setting up a huge 2k8R2 DFS-N.

EVENT ERROR provisioning-diagnostics-provider ID 12 Hallo,
the errors that are described there I have not or already solved some time ago, so unfortunately I can not apply any solutions. The strange thing is that the error has not occurred so far, probably because I left windows for a long time and the automatic maintenance repaired the error itself.
I will report back for new problems.
Best Regards *Smile -

I try to upgrade Windows 7 machines to Windows 10 with MDT Microsoft Deployment Tool. The installation is getting stuck at 30% after a reboot. I tried several solutions but none of them worked.
Delete entries in system variables.
Delete drive letter on system reserved partition (is not the case).
Repairing windows 10 system files
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow
It is not an option to upgrade the machines with a Windows 10 ISO file, we have 130 stores all around the country. Do you guys have any idea?
I have different errors in de C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanthersetuperr.log file. But there are a lot of errors and I don’t know which one is the correct one to start with. At the end of the line I have those two errors.

This exact problem is discussed in the post
Issue when updateing from windows 7 pro to windows 10 pro.
Three workarounds were mentioned which worked for some (but not for
everyone), as follows.
1. Incorrect PATH
One poster deleted everything in Path under System Variables except
the following:
%SystemRoot%system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%System32Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%System32WindowsPowerShellv1.0
Check if you have any unnecessary item in the PATH in addition to the
above entries.
2. Assigning drive letter ‘A’ to the «System Reserved» partition
This was done using Disk Management.
It seems like a weird solution, but it was reported as working by one guy.
3. Tweaking.com windows repair
The poster downloaded and ran
Tweaking.com — Windows Repair Portable
and reports:
I can’t remember which items exactly I ticked but pretty much resetting all the services, Windows update, firewall etc. Then rebooted and tried the Win10 1909 upgrade, and it worked perfectly.

The System Registry contains invalid file paths error is the common error that you will encounter during the Upgradation of Windows 7/8/8.1 to windows 10. Once you encounter this error you will receive the full error message as mentioned below. This post will guide you to remediate this issue.
Error Message:
The system registry contains invalid file paths. Installation cannot proceed. This system image was applied without guaranteeing that drive-letter assignments would match across computers.
When this error message Prompt it will ask the user to click on OK, If you click on OK then the system will restart and show the following error message.
Any changes made to the computer will be undone…
Most of the time I personally faced this issue, once you received the above-mentioned error the system will get restart. The restart will take time, after the restart the system will boot into old version of windows. No changes will be applied.
If you encounter this issue then you can try the recommended solution one by one, these solutions will help you to resolve the issue.
Delete System Reserved Partition:
In Windows System Reserved Partition is a partition for data storage which locates before the system C drive. Usually, it will automatically generate during the Clean Installation Process of the windows operating system, it is used by the windows OS to save some system components. Also, windows use this as a boot partition to load necessary information for the computer to boot up. You can see the system reserved partition directly because Windows won’t allocate Drive Letter for it. Deleting the system reserved partition will fix this issue.
Open Run command by pressing Windows + R and type Diskmgmt.msc and hit enter. This command will open the Disk Management.
Now you will get the separate window, look for System Reserved Partition, right-click on it and choose Change Drive Letter and Paths.
Click on the Remove button.
Exit the Disk Management Console and Restart your PC once.
On the next boot retry for the Upgrade and see the Process will complete successfully or not.
Delete System Environment Variables:
Open Control Panel and look for System, Click and open the System settings.
Under About > Related settings click on the Advanced System Settings
Now you will get the System Properties window click on the Advance Tab and choose Environment Variables.
Now under System Variable click on Path and Delete.
Also, delete all the entries except the entries with the following path.
C:Windowssystem32
C:WindowsPowershell
Restart the system once and check.
Clean Install of Windows 10:
If the Upgradation is not gone successful then the next option is to do a Clean Install of the latest version of Windows. There are many ways to do a Clean Windows Installation. Check here to do how to do clean install of windows.
