First of all, I have to give my sincere congratulations for the great project you have there. It is an application that has no comparison with the traditional Windows Scanner (original Windows). Here at home, everyone uses this application and I’ve never had any problems, it’s fantastic. My sincere congratulations and may version 3.0 come for great news… I can’t wait.

With the great application you have, I had an idea. What if I made an application but to print? Create an application that had the function of taking files like JPG or PDF or other and could print through this application?
The menus to print in Windows 10 (windows that I can use) are outdated and confusing menus, in which there are cases of not having translations for some languages.
It was very interesting if this idea was created, it would be very useful.

There aren’t many alternatives… I’ll have to use what currently exists in Windows.

The JPG is incorrectly encoded result to huge file size.

To Reproduce

1. Select «JPG» in «Save as»
2. Scan a document
3. Observe the file
4. The file is incorrectly encoded

Expected behavior
The file should be small size with JPG encoding

Wonderful App

I downloaded the app about a month ago and it was working great. Now it seems to have automatically updated and no longer works. When I press the «Scan» button, it just says:

Something went wrong
The scan failed due to an unknown error.
Unspecified error

Clearly needs better error handling at a minimum.

This is with Scanner 3.0.3.0 on Windows 10 Home Version 21H1, using a Canon Pixma TS3320 on USB. Scanning still works using the Canon app.

After updating to 3.0.1.0, the app crashes on launch on Windows 10 (On Windows 11 runs fine)

I always scan pages in 300 dpi because 100 dpi results in too low of a quality. However, this comes at the tradeoff of 300 dpi scans having gigantic dimensions, so that when opening a 300 dpi PDF scan, you have to zoom out before you can see the document properly.

Describe the solution you’d like
It would be great if the scanner could mitigate this by allowing an option to scale down. In order to reduce unnecessary complexity, I think it would suffice if it were possible to scale down 300 dpi scans to one third of their size, such that the end result will have the dimensions of a 100 dpi scan but the quality of a 300 dpi scan.

Scaling down the scan manually, this would be easy enough for images of course, but it does become a hassle when directly scanning to a PDF.

The scanner application cannot connect to the Epson XP-235 printer via wifi but can only connect to the scanner via cable

It would be amazing if it was possible to crop it down on preview. I don’t remember if it was on the early early stages of this app or the other scan app on the store but I remember seeing that and that it self made de printer/scanner only get that part and speedup the scanning process by a lot for small things.

Just and Idea :).

The small step size causes uneccessary scrolling.

Suggestion: Have a drop down menu with predefined values, one value being «Custom». Upon selecting custom, allow the user to type in a user defined value.

This could be an issue specifically with my printer, but the scanned page size is much taller then the size of the paper being scanned. This does not occur with the oem scan app, HP Scan and Capture. The size of paper I’m scanning is letter, but the output is closer to legal.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Open scanner
2. Insert letter sized document into feeder
3. scan
4. document appears too tall

Expected behavior
Output scanned page size should match the page size of the document scanned.

Some people does not have palpay or credit card, like many in China, only very few people use paypal and credit card is not something everyone need to have. For those who want to make donation to support the development, it is better to have cryptocurrency addresses.

I noted that in the «Automatic rotation» message, the initial word is not translated while the rest of the message is.
In my case the language is italian, but the issue could appear also in the other languages.

To reproduce

1. Scan with the automatic rotation on.
2. The message appears

Describe the bug
The app crashes when moving it from main to second screen, only in «fullscreen» layout (see image 1) on the main page.

To Reproduce the crash

1. Open Scanner on my main screen, it should be in fullscreen layout
2. Move the window to my second screen
3. Crash

An other way

1. Open Scanner to my second screen
2. Directly Crash

But, if I resize the window first, in order to have an other layout (see image 2), and then drag the app to the second screen, it doesn’t crash. After that, if I change back the layout to the full screen one, and move between my screens, it doesn’t crash anymore.
It doesn’t crash either if I don’t resize the window but open the settings (image 3) and then move the app.
It seems to be related to the main page in fullscreen layout at the startup.

I just stumbled upon your scanner app and was instantly enthusiastic. It’s smooth, fast, looks good and modern, and supports great features like Windows Ink. It’s just missing one feature for me, and unfortunately, it’s a crucial one, namely setting contrast and brightness (but contrast in particular) inside the app. It’s the only reason scans come out better for me using Epson Scan than using your scanner app. However, Epson Scan is extremely outdated and partly broken (you better don’t minimize it!) from a UX perspective (the splash screen says © 2002, need I say more?) so I’m very keen on moving away from it, and your app seems like the best choice I’ve found.

It should be possible to set brightness and contrast levels prior to scanning. I believe this should be possible using
these properties from the API.

Describe alternatives you’ve considered

• Staying on Epson Scan but it’s ****. 😅
• Living with the worse scans on your app just because of the scanner UX. At default contrast settings, little creases on the paper become much too visible and the paper itself is grey and shows the little imperfections. I need scans to have a plain white backdrop and ink to be sharp, which a higher contrast achieves.

The SplitButton should be split into two buttons, or the default action should be adjustable. I rarely use the option to scan multiple documents into one file. It would save me an additional click and also prevent times when I use the wrong scan mode accidentally.

• Automatically save the last state of the SplitButton control

A few days ago, I installed the programme to have a look at it, but I couldn’t see anything as I don’t have a scanner. Nothing to be surprised about, of course, but I was wondering if Scanner could implement a way to load previously scanned documents in order to edit them (and maybe perform OCR through Tesseract). I know the programme has clear and disctinctive name, but any steps towards an alternative to ABBYY FineReader would be awesome.

The application started to crash when opening in version 3.0, in Windows 10. It shows the logo but then it crashes.

When a translation is not complete, the missing strings show empty

Adding a «Save File» Windows Explorer window might not be a bad idea. Even better, it could possibly be toggleable so that some people might not want that and would prefer the old way.

Basically, the default save location could change to either that or a «Let me pick after each scan» option or something along those lines. Possibly something that might be beneficial to some?

Describe the bug
Version 3.0 introduces two sliders for brightness and contrast, and corresponding reset buttons to the right. However, while pressing the reset buttons does reset the sliders, it does not reset the actual values, for which the sliders need to be set manually to the neutral position.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Scan a page with neutral contrast and brightness settings.
2. Scan the same page again with high contrast or brightness (to make the difference more obvious).
3. Reset the slider via the reset button.
4. Scan the same page again. The new scan looks like the result of step 2 but it should look like the result of step 1.
5. Set the contrast and brightness sliders manually to 0.
6. Scan the same page again. The new scan now looks like the reset of step 1, as it should.

I´m always frustrated, when I need to scan every page alone, just because I want to select the saving folder every time individually.

A clear and concise description of what you want to happen.
I would like to pick the saving folder, every time I scan a new document, but not for every page. It should be possible, to scan multiple pages at once, while picking the saving folder every time.
