Describe the bug
An error window appears, saying «This Windows version (6.3.9600) does not support the required bluetooth API. Consider updating to a more recent Windows (10.0.10685 or above).»
To Reproduce
I installed the latest QGIS (3.4, 64-bit). In the Plugins > Manage and Install Plugins menu I searched for GIS4WRF and clicked on «Install plugin». Then the error appeared.
Expected behavior
I expected that the plugin would be installed.

Thanks for reporting this. It seems to be an issue with a dependency (PyQT) of QGIS that’s not working on older Windows versions in all cases. See also enricofer/go2streetview#41, or winpython/winpython#592. There seems to exist a weird work-around but ultimately this should be fixed in QGIS or that dependency. If there are more reports from users with this issue we may decide to implement the work-around, but for now this has low priority. I would recommend updating to Windows 10, or alternatively opening an issue in the QGIS bug tracker. If you decide to do the latter, please add the link in here for reference.
I’ve «solve» this on my PC:
Go to c:Python37Libsite-packagesPyQt5Qtbin (or where your python installed in) and rename
Qt5Bluetooth.dll to Qt5Bluetooth.dll1

Something isn’t working
Been using spyder3 IDE to play around with python. I reformatted my computer recently and then ran into this problem when starting sypder:
My usual steps after a computer format are:
1) Install Python 3 from python.org windows .exe download.
2) Run these commands in command prompt.
pip install PyQt5
pip install spyder
3) Using explorer, navigate to python/scripts/ and double clicked on spyder3.exe.
4) Usually spyder3 will start now, but recently I have been getting this error box:
Windows Error Box
«This Windows version (6.3.9600) does not support the required Bluetooth API. Consider updating to a more recent Windows (10.0.10586 or above).»
I reformatted my computer again, reinstalled everything but the problem is persisting.
I tried to load spyder3 by downloading the spyder .zip git-hub and using the following command:
python bootstrap.py
but this leads me to the same error message.
Both these methods worked fine before, I am unsure what caused it and how to proceed. Kindly asking for your insights

Hi guys. I know the error asks me to update my windows. Unfortunately it’s not possible on this machine. Please support 🙂 Thanks in advance.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
The version of pyqt5 was updated in #414
It seems this is the cause of the problem as you can see here:
winpython/winpython#592
PyQt5.Qt imports a lot of modules including bluetooth which seems to has issues on Win8.1.
I think the issue can be solved according to the suggestion of altendky:
winpython/winpython#592 (comment)
Also see here:
spyder-ide/qtpy#166
So it looks like the imports have to be edited to support versions below Windows 10.

Bluetooth Low Energy API for Windows 7.0
Windows 8 exposes an API to communicate to Bluetooth Low Energy (Smart) devices, but this API is not available in previous versions of Windows, so how can I communicate with a BLE dongle on Windows 7?
The BLE dongle I’m currently using (BLED112) exposes a virtual serial port, over which you can send commands using their custom proprietary API, but if I implement this in my software, it will not work with dongles from other manufacturers.
So is there a way to communicate with BLE devices on Windows 7 which is manufacturer-independent?
4 Answers 4
So it turns out that some people have found a workaround. Basically the idea is to not use the Windows BLE API (which doesn’t work on Windows 7) but instead to talk to the dongle directly. You can do that using WinUSB (a user-space USB driver). That driver can be installed using Zadig.
Here is an example:
It has C++ code to let you send HCI commands. There is also a Node library of how to use HCI for higher level BLE stuff:
I don’t know if there are any non-JS libraries that do the same, but I don’t think it would be hard to convert Bleno to C++ in any case.
Is BLE a requirement? Most BLE devices will probably be dual-mode, so you could fallback to the non-LE mode on older versions of Windows.
The documentation suggests the drivers for most dongles can be replaced with the Microsoft class driver. Though, the API also work with other stacks if replacement is not feasible (with a few caveats depending on the stack [i.e., requiring additional DLLs]).
Switching to the MS stack
As far as I can tell there is currently no way to do this.
You may be able to get the open source BTstack to work, but their BLE implementation has only been «started», and there are no instructions for building it on Windows. Their wiki suggests that no-one has tried.
If anyone has any success this way, complete instructions on how to do it would be great!

Hello, I just freshly installed the new QGIS 3.4.2 but I encountered an error with the «go2streetview» plugin.
When I activate this plugin I have a Window pop-up error which states:
«This Windows version (6.3.9600) does not support the required Bluetooth API. Consider updating to a more recent Windows (10.0.10586 or above)»
It seems that this issue is related to a pyQT5 version.. (see related issue here:https://github.com/winpython/winpython/issues/592)
I opened an error on the bugtracker page of the plugin (https://github.com/enricofer/go2streetview/issues/41)
but a developper stated that this issue should be fixed ultimately in QGIS or the pyQT dependency and recommended to open an issue here
Thanks for your help
PS: everything runs fine with this extension in QGIS 3.2.3

Windows 8.1 not supported?
Hi,
I would like to try qDslrDashboard with my Canon 7D Mark II built-in wifi before I purchase TP-link TL-WR902AC. I use Windows 8.1 and here comes the error:
«This windows version (6.3.9600) does not support the required Bluetooth API. Consider updating to a more recent Windows (10.0.10586 or above)«
when I try to run it. Does this mean qDslrDashboard only supports Win 10? Is there an option top download older build which supports win 8.1? I have found nothing in documentation/main page regarding supported windows versions. I have also tried to search forum, but «windows» phrase is considered as «too common» to show me some results
Thank you.

I had the same error under Windows 8.1 x64 (6.3)
I solved it by replacing the Qt5Bluetooth.dll file in the qDD folder by the one from the package qt-opensource-windows-x86-5.9.2.exe
(C:QtQt5.9.25.9.2msvc2017_64binQt5Bluetooth.dll)

Yeah, the install package is for Windows 10. Unfortunately, pyinstaller adds all Qt5 libraries. I have a list that strips away the largest ones, but I’ll add this one too. It is not needed at all.

Hmm, how did you install this? Via the Windows installer, or did you use pip install
?

I checked in the Windows installer, and I exclude the bluetooth package. Anyway, the above path seems to indicate it’s an issue with the PyQt5 package installed via pip
. If so, it’s not a novelWriter issue, but an issue with https://pypi.org/project/PyQt5/

Hmm, how did you install this? Via the Windows installer, or did you use
pip install
?
git clone
and pip install
in a virtualenv. I found a few similar issues on other repositories using PyQt5 and this one seems to point in the right direction but I have no experience with PyQt5 or the code in novelWriter so I don’t know what to change.

novelWriter explicitly imports only the tools it needs from PyQt5, and Bluetooth is definitely not one of them. So the suggested solution from your link is already covered. Either there is a dependency loading in the background, or the PyQt5 package has issues on Windows 8.1. I haven’t been a Windows user since Windows Vista or 7, so I have limited knowledge of the quirks of older Windows versions.
You can always try to install one of the older versions of PyQt5 from https://pypi.org/project/PyQt5/#history
novelWriter isn’t very picky on the version, but the higher the better. But even 5.3 should work.
Howtologinquickwiththirtyninecharacters
Another similar bug report I read said this doesn’t happen in Windows 7 or 10, only in 8.1. I don’t expect this to be fixed in PyQt5 because it’s already a few years old, I think I’ll keep using the recommended version and deleting the Bluetooth dll. Thanks for the help and information. Should we close the bug since it is not a novelWriter bug but one of its dependencies’ bug?
