Trustudio thx trustudio pro windows 10

After upgrading to windows 10 from windows 7, surround sound does not work properly. Whether using analog or digital.

First of all, 5.1 now has side speakers available instead of rear speakers. I had to actually unplug from rear channel and plug into side channel to get surround speakers working. But it still does not sound right, it does not sound as it should. Not like it did in win 7 I don’t think this is proper format and mapping. Using the same exact drivers in win 7, I get rear speaker option (not side channels) and it sounds proper.

Furthermore, When watching videos in vlc, wmp, or browsers. THX Trustudio surround settings have no affect on sound. And Neither do any of the realtek control panel enhancements. Only time realtek enchancements have an affect is when playing mp3 file formats in wmp in stereo mode.

Updating to the latest realtek driver does not fix this issue. I believe this is a Microsoft windows 10 issue. One of the things MS has always had over linux is better sound and surround sound controls. This is a huge step backwards and a disappointing experience.

Also I notice now under codec it says alc3220 instead of alc887 like on win 7.

I have a dell studio xps 7100.

I checked the Dell website. It seems that they haven`t released the Windows 10 compatible drivers for your machine model. To make a device work well, we should get compatible drivers and the drivers are released by the device manufacturer. We may need to revert back to previous version until we get compatible drivers.

Ironically the original dell drivers are the only ones that work. That have the proper speaker mapping and realtek sound enhancements affect all programs. But they don’t have a manual sound equalizer only presets, because its such an old version.

It also was the case for me always in windows 7, that those Dell drivers no longer worked with the THX Trustudio download from creative. I could never download the original THX program from dell cause they only allowed 3 downloads. So I always use the dell community link straight to creative, and that would only work with newer drivers.

I indeed decided to try again with the original dell drivers. this time uninstalling the realtek 2.79 installer files by uninstalling the device from within device manager, not uninstall programs menu. Then I rebooted, without uninstalling THX Trustudio. Then installed the original dell audio drivers. And to low and behold to my astonishment, the THX Trustudio accepted it as supported device and the surround controls actually have an affect. I’m still in shock but at least its working. I can live without having a user equalizer, presets are good enough.

But now a neww issue is I have the low volume bug many people upgrading to windows 10 have. IT doesn’t affect stereo speaker mode and only seems to affect surround sound mode in my case. The problem is the volume is very very low. The tricks I read online were toggle loudness equalization setting or toggling the 24 bit quality settings. But it seems to only help stereo speakers not surround mode.

But I can live with this, cause I can just turn up the volume on my surround speakers itself. The most important thing for me was getting proper 5.1 channel mapping and having the thx trustudio surround settings to have an affect. Its still not what it should be, but at least now I can sleep at night knowing that 5.1 actually works. Ty.
