Trine 2 really tests your GPU, 100% usage is normal as the game uses the full available resources of your machine. You can limit your framerates though to give your machine a breathing space. Also, lower super sample anti-aliasing (SSAA) as it is the most consuming option.
To limit the framerates manually, edit %APPDATA%/Trine2/options.txt. If you change line setOption(renderingModule, “ReduceInputLag”, false) and change the value to false, it will help make the gameplay smooth while putting less burden on your machine.

You can face this issue due to number of frames being buffered. Trine 2 by default uses 2 frames.

You are looking for an antivirus running in the background or any security program that might be preventing the game from connecting online. Other than this, you can try and run the game as an administrator.
Alternatively, type in %AppData% into the address bar of your folder and go into the game’s folder and delete the options.txt file to reset the game’s settings.
If you can’t connect to a Private Game even after entering the correct password, then go to the Multiplayer game menu and try joining the game manually instead of through your friend’s invite.
If all else fails, try going back to an older version of Trine 2.
#12 Exception Code 0xc0000005
Try updating your video card drivers.
Go to the Trine 2 installation folder and try removing or renaming the atiags.dll from the folder.
Disable XFire if you have it running in the background.
If nothing works then go to your Steam Library, right click on Trine 2, select properties and then click on set launch options and enter the following line of text.

7. Проблемы с производительностью в Trine 2
Чтобы узнать какое значение FPS показывает ваш компьютер в игре, наберите в консоли команду /show_fps 1.

4) Теперь опять меняем значение /steam_cloud_enabled в файле configoptions.txt на 1.
9. Процессор или видеокарта перегреваются из-за Trine 2
Trine 2 и правда очень требовательна к ресурсам и использует вашу машину по полной. Чтобы немного облегчить жизнь вашего компьютера можете ограничить количество кадров в секунду или выключить анти-альязинг.
Чтобы ограничить количество кадров в секунду обратимся к старому доброму файлу %APPDATA%/Trine2/options.txt. Если поставить значение false напротив параметров setOption(renderingModule, ReduceInputLag) то игра будет работать быстрее.
10. Как уменьшить количество лагов в Trine 2
Эта проблема связана с количеством кадров, которые игра помещает в буфер. По умолчанию это 2 кадра.
Если поменять вышеупомянутое значение setOption(renderingModule, ReduceInputLag) на true, то разница будет заметна. Тут уже сами решайте, как вам будет приятнее играть.

I’m having issues getting Trine 1 and 2 to launch.
I’ve had it running fine previously. Now if I try to launch either game I can get into the launcher and once I click start game nothing happens. Task Manager shows the game running in the background and it must be force closed.
It’s a bit annoying to have to go digging for the EXE’s to get the game working and I’d like the ability to launch through Steam’s Big Picture Mode so I can play this game on my large TV.
The game seems to generate dump files in the folder, I’m not sure if I can send these to the devs?

This is still a real problem in Windows 10. I think most people aren’t going to figure out how to solve it, especially since the Enchanted Edition executables are in a sub-folder.

For as long as they’re expecting people to pay money for it. It’s literally unplayable out of the box in Windows 10.
We have rarely gotten reports about this, so I’d say the game is usually working fine on Windows 10. At least there hasn’t been any trouble on the computers at our office or on my home computer.

I can’t seem to make Trine 2 work with windows 10. it shows the launcher and as soon as i press lauch trine 2, the screen goes black for a couple seconds and then it sends me back to desktop.
It still shows up in the Task manager, as it woul be running, but even if i press it nothing happens. Just black screen for a few seconds and then dumped back into desktop again.
Any ohter of you experience this?

What is your hardware and gpu driver version? Did you perform upgrade from windows 7 or 8/8.1 to windows 10 or clean installation of it?
Two first things to try:
1. verify game cache via proper option in steam
2. Update/reinstall gpu driver, just download driver dedicated for windows 10 and install it.
I played it on Windows 10 and had no Problems. But i experienced the same as i tried to fiddle with Physx files to fix the Movable Object Stutter.
So yeah verify Game Files first and if this still doesn’t help try getting the newest Legacy Physx Files from http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.12.1031-legacy-driver.html (tested them and they work with Trine 1 +2) and also of course update to the newest Video Drivers.

But for Trine EE it does for sure, i tried different Builds for Trine 2 but also exchanged the Files in the Gamedir. Trine EE won’t even start without Physx Drivers, Trine 2 does because the Files are in the Gamedirectory.
But Trine EE also works fine with the newest Physx Drivers from the newest GPU Drivers, no legacy Drivers needed but also works with the newest legacy Drivers, no stutter at all. But if all (legacy and the one from the GPU Driver) Physx Drivers are removed completely from the System by deinstalling them, Trine EE won’t even start.
Seems logical because Trine EE also has a Legacy Physx Driver Installer that also runs on the first start, while Trine 2 doesn’t and has static 2.8.x.x Physx Files in the Game Directory, but the Phsyx Drivers from the GPU Drivers still seem to have some influence.
But i anyway came to the conclusion that the movable Object Stutter has nothing to do with the Physx Version, it’s more like the fps for the Object is not synced with the fps the Game runs at, so no matter what, it will always stutter. But who knows, maybe this is also more noticable on Plasma’s like i used to play it, where the Refresh Delay is really small (0.00001ms response).
I stand corrected then. I probably don’t know enough about how Physx works. Always thought it’s the same for Windows as it is for other platforms (no drivers for e.g. PS4 or Wii U, of course).
I do wonder though: On my desktop, which has AMD graphics, only Physx 2.x drivers are installed. No version 3 driver, yet Trine EE, Trine 3 and Shadwen work just fine (only Trine 2 and original Trine use version 2 of Physx). Since you are seeing a difference, I have to presume that some Nvidia spesific acceleration is, after all, enabled.
As far the stuttering, you’d be surprised how little people see. I am, yet I didn’t notice the stuttering until someone pointed it to me (and I’ve done hundreds of hours of Trine 2 development).
Well, i also don’t know exactly how they implemented it with the GPU Drivers, but i seen that they install alot of Revision along with the GPU Drivers and there seem to be alot different Physx Files specific for Apex and Gameworks.
I also noticed that in the NVidia Control Panel if you set Auto for for CPU or GPU Physx it defaults to GPU now, also the Files anyway support both CPU and GPU Physx, but the Question now is that Setting relevant if they are used like in Trine 2 or not.
I don’t know exactly, but because the Files in the Trine 2 Directory are actually loaded and they are NVidia Files, i suppose they do read those Settings and switch CPU/GPU Physx. But the Difference is probably anyway irrelevant for Trine 2, it doesnt use so much Physx anyway, Object Physics used in Trine 2 is probably very basic Stuff for Physx.
What was interesting is that the exact Revision used for Trine 2 is missing in the Nivdia Collection, there are lower and higher but that one is nowhere to be found.
And about noticing the Stutter, well i’m a visually and auditive very sensitive Person for glitches like that, apparently i even notice millisecond microstutter while turning Camera 360° with Controller, where others see nothing. 😉 The same for Movies, where i see stutter in Camera tracking shot panning, probably resulting from mechanical stutter.
I also discussed such Things with some Cam/Movie Experts already and it seem that sometimes it’s not even mechanical or performance related, but an Issue with Eye and Brain processing.
So apparently for some People certain speeds sync up with frame rates so that they cause jitters or stuttering and the slower the frame rate the more obvious the problem becomes, so that explains why i see stutter in slow Cam panning in Movies and turning Camera 360° with Controller in Games.
It has nothing to do with Performance at all, it’s the Brain that notices that there’s something wrong and doesn’t process the movement smoothly, because in reality it is not smoothly, even at 60hz it’s 60 Single Pictures per Seconds and not a continuous movement.
Ok, for most 24hz or 30hz is enough to fool the Eye and Brain to believe it’s a continuous movement, but apparently there are some where this isn’t enough and also certain movement speed Combination that makes it worse for them.
In my Case i also notice it even more because i only rarely blink, yeah sounds weird but i really only rarely blink, i can easly focus on something like a Screen for 20 Minutes or more without blinking once. I even was tested by a Neurologist with MRI and Stuff because of that, but nothing was found, it’s simply that i don’t or only rarely blink if i focus on something like a Movie or Game. But this also means that my Brain gets a greater flow of continuous visual Information and that i definitely notice glitches where others see nothing.
The same also happens for Auditve Stuff, i’m hyper sensitive too Audioglitches, even small hissing, distortions or what ever really bothers me up to going berserk. Especially if Headsets have such glitches, well, it’s not the first i literally destroyed because of such extreme bothering glitches. So yeah, i’m indeed audio/visually very sensitive. 😉
But i’m sure the Object Stutter i experience in Trine 2 is quite noticable for anyone, because it seems that the Objects have 30hz while the Game runs at 60hz, that’s definitely heavy Stutter, at least for me its very heavy.
