VMware Horizon deployments

Horizon Client for Windows requires the latest maintenance release of one of the following deployment types:

• VMware Horizon 8 version 2006 or later
• VMware Horizon 7 version 7.13 or later
• VMware Horizon Cloud Service — next-gen
• Horizon Cloud in Microsoft Azure

Connection Server and
Horizon Agent

Latest maintenance release of Horizon 7 is version 7.13.

If client systems connect from outside the corporate firewall, use a Unified Access Gateway appliance so that client systems do not require a VPN connection. If your company has an internal wireless network to provide routable access to remote desktops that devices can use, you do not need to set up Unified Access Gateway or a VPN connection.

Hardware requirements for PCoIP and VMware Blast

• x86-based processor with SSE2 extensions, with an 800 MHz or faster processor speed.
• Available RAM above system requirements to support various monitor setups. Use the following formula as a general guide. The unit of measurement is pixels.

  20 MB + (24 * (# monitors) * (monitor width) * (monitor height))

  In general, you can use the following calculations.

  1 monitor: 1600 x 1200: 64 MB
  2 monitors: 1600 x 1200: 128 MB
  3 monitors: 1600 x 1200: 256 MB

Hardware requirements for RDP

• x86-based processor with SSE2 extensions, with an 800 MHz or faster processor speed.
• 128 MB RAM.

Software requirements for RDP

• For Windows 10, use RDP 10.0.
• The agent installer configures the local firewall rule for inbound RDP connections to match the current RDP port of the host operating system, which is typically 3389. If you change the RDP port number, you must change the associated firewall rules.

Video and graphics requirements

• Graphics card that supports Direct3D 11 Video.
• Latest video and graphics card drivers.

.NET Framework requirements

The
Horizon Client installer requires .NET Framework version 4.5 or later. The installer checks whether .NET Framework version 4.5 or later is installed before installation. If the client machine does not meet this prerequisite, the installer downloads the latest version of .NET Framework automatically.

To use
Horizon Client, .NET Desktop Runtime for Windows x64 version 6.0 or later is required. The
Horizon Client installer installs a recent version of Desktop Runtime. After you install
Horizon Client, you can update Desktop Runtime from
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/6.0/runtime.

Подключившись с клиента к удаленному компьютеру, пользователь получит доступ к любым функциям установленной на нем операционной системы.

Платформа VMware Horizon работает примерно также, только здесь в качестве удаленного компьютера используются виртуальные машины, развернутые на мощных серверах. Таких виртуальных машин на одном сервере может быть множество. И все они управляются одним или группой администраторов, именующихся посредниками (брокерами). В их задачу входит настройка прав доступа пользователей к тем или иным функциям виртуального рабочего стола.

Пользователи могут иметь или не иметь возможность сохранять изменения (например, в открываемых электронных документах), устанавливать и удалять приложения, выполнять операции над файлами и т.д. В этом плане виртуальный рабочий стол практически ни чем не отличается от корпоративного компьютера, полностью контролируемого системным администратором.

Преимущества платформы VMware Horizon

К одному из основных преимуществ платформы VMware Horizon относится универсальность ее клиентской программы. Представленный на данной странице клиент VMware Horizon Client предназначен для установки на компьютеры под управлением Windows. Но также существуют версии приложения под MacOS, iOS, Android, Linux. Возможно подключение к виртуальным рабочим столам и из обычного браузера. Вот еще важные особенности использования виртуальных рабочих столов и платформы VMware Horizon, в частности:

• Стоимость. Виртуальный рабочий стол, как мы уже выяснили, практически ничем не отличается от обычного компьютера. Если требуется обеспечить, к примеру, 20 офисных сотрудников высокопроизводительными настольными ПК, будет разумней сэкономить, приобретя менее мощные машины (т.н. офисный вариант) и подключив их впоследствии к платформе VMware Horizon.
• Безопасность. Еще одним из преимуществ виртуальных рабочих столов над физическими настольными компьютерами является более высокий уровень безопасности хранения данных. Во-первых, они хранятся в едином центре обработки данных, а не на отдельных конечных компьютерах, которые приходится защищать антивирусами и прочими защитными средствами в индивидуальном порядке. Во-вторых, если компьютер выйдет из строя или попросту будет украден, то злоумышленники не смогут получить доступ к каким-либо важным данным, т.к. хранятся они на удаленных серверах. Ко всему прочему, клиент VMware Horizon Client работает в изолированной среде, что дополнительно увеличивает уровень защиты данных от кибератак.
• Гибкость. Для организаций с гибкой рабочей силой (или другими словами — для организаций, нанимающих персонал на короткое время) виртуальные рабочие столы имеют явное преимущество в плане обеспечения сотрудников такими мощностями, которые будут им достаточно для реализации конкретной задачи. Администраторы могут быстро и легко выделять виртуальные рабочие столы без необходимости приобретать дорогостоящие физические машины пользователям, которым они могут понадобиться только на короткое время.
• Простое управление. ИТ-отдел может легко управлять большим количеством удаленных виртуальных рабочих столов из единого центра. Обновления программного обеспечения выполняются быстрее и проще, потому что их можно выполнять сразу и для всех пользователей, а для каждого компьютера индивидуально.

Впрочем, у подобных платформ есть и недостатки. Если в центре обработки данных, где развернута система VMware Horizon, закончится дисковое пространство для хранения данных, пользователи смогут испытывать затруднения с доступом к своим рабочим столам и выполнению любых операций. Выхода из ситуации два — либо приобретение дополнительного дискового пространства, что в итоге увеличит стоимость подписки на использование виртуальной машины, либо удаление/перемещение данных, что зачастую недопустимо для средних и крупных компаний.

Несмотря на то, что к производительности клиентского устройства не предъявляется высоких требований, работа с удаленным рабочим столом все же может быть затруднена по причине плохого сетевого соединения. И это еще не говоря о прямой зависимости от сетевого подключения — если оно внезапно пропадет, то работа всей организации попросту остановится до устранения неполадок с сетью.

VMware Horizon (formerly called Horizon View) is a commercial desktop and app virtualization product developed by VMware, Inc for Microsoft Windows, Linux and macOS operating systems. It was first sold under the name VMware VDM, but with the release of version 3.0.0 in 2008 it was changed to «VMware View». The name was updated to «Horizon View» with the launch of version 6 in April 2014^[2][3]

VMware Horizon provides virtual desktop and app capabilities to users utilizing VMware’s virtualization technology. A desktop operating system — typically Microsoft Windows — runs within a virtual machine on a hypervisor. VMware Horizon product has a number of components which are required to provide the virtual desktops, including:

• VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi with a vSphere license)
• VMware vCenter Server (management of virtualization environment)
• View Composer (advanced View management, with automation and cloning)
• View Manager (administration of the View Environment)
• View Client (communication between View and the desktop OS)
• VMware ThinApp (application virtualization)
• View Persona Management (user profile management)
• vShield Endpoint (offloaded desktop antivirus)

Although VMware licenses vSphere hypervisor per physical CPU-socket,^[4] it licenses VMware View per concurrent desktop.^[5] The bundled hypervisor, vSphere for Desktops, is functionally equivalent to vSphere Enterprise Plus.^[6]

VMware View has two licensing options, Enterprise and Premier. Enterprise comes with vSphere for Desktops, vCenter Server, and View Manager, and has an MSRP of $150 per concurrent desktop. View Composer, Persona Management, vShield Endpoint, and ThinApp are included in the Premier edition at an MSRP of $250 per concurrent desktop.^[5]

In order to transport the desktop resources to users, keyboard, video, mouse and other interactions travel over a network connection. VMware View supports the VMware Blast Extreme, Microsoft RDP, and the Teradici PCoIP^[7] protocols.

VMware Horizon 7. Часть 1: Установка и развертывание View

VMware Horizon View — продукт для виртуализации персональных компьютеров, содержащий в себе ряд компонентов для организации рабочей среды, позволяя централизованно управлять размещенными на сервере рабочими станциями. Horizon View входит в состав бандла Horizon, который в свою очередь лицензируется в трех вариантах: Standard, Advanced и Enterprise Edition. И хотя лицензирование, как и набор поставляемых компонентов для каждой из редакций являются отдельной темой, из основных компонентов Horizon View можно выделить следующие:

Подготовка инфраструктуры.

Для развертывания Horizon View 7 потребуется, как минимум, один физический сервер — хост с установленным ESXi версии 6.0, или выше (на момент тестирования от создания отказоустойчивого кластера VMware из двух и более хостов можно отказаться). Далее на хосте ESXi разворачиваются необходимые компоненты Horizon View, большинство из которых могут так же размещаться и на операционных системах, установленных напрямую на “железо” (без установки гипервизора). Управление средой Horizon View 7 возможно только в домене Active Directory и в то же время управляющие компоненты не могут быть установлены на контроллерах домена.

Ниже будет рассмотрен процесс установки компонентов Horizon View 7.0.1 с использованием гипервизора VMware ESXi 6.0U2.

В первую очередь необходимо установить Connection Server и Security Server (если доступ из интернет во внутреннюю сеть не требуется Security Server можно не устанавливать). Для этого потребуется две виртуальных машины с Windows Server 2008R2, или Windows Server 2012R2, введенных в домен Active Directory. Соответственно, потребуется, как минимум, еще одна виртуальная машина, выполняющая функцию контроллера домена Active Directory.

Первоначально я использовал три виртуальных машины Windows Server 2012R2 со статическими IP адресами, 2vCPU и 4Гб оперативной памяти на каждую:

Более конкретные системные требования для установки каждого из компонентов Horizon View vмогут варьироваться от объема масштабируемой системы (см. ниже для каждого компонента).

Для Horizon View так же потребуется vCenter Server, который аналогично не устанавливается на контроллере домена Active Directory. Можно использовать linux-версию — vCenter Server Appliance, установка которого была рассмотрена здесь:

Обратите внимание, что доменный контроллер Active Directory должен стартовать до того, как стартует vCenter Server.

Для начала выполните пункты 5.1 и 5.2 правил форума Windows 8. Судя по скриншоту, у вас Windows 7, кстати.

И не забудьте указать версию программы.

Trying to install VMWare Horizon Client on a machine, am only given the «Install Failed» prompt.

I’ve attempted doing a full install, and a custom install without HTML 5.0: the log file is attached.

What version of Windows are you installing to?

Looking at the log I see this

What account are you using for the install? Local admin or domain account with run-as-admin?

Domain with run-as-admin.

Ok, that’s pretty typical tho I have seen cases where that has issues.

Can you try logging on with the local administrator and try that?

If that doesn’t work what support do you possibly have that you can open a GSS ticket and upload the logs to them?

looks like it is having trouble installing USB arbitration drivers. What if you deselect everything besides the basic install?

Try right clicking on one of the USB hubs and looking at the driver details. If usbfilter.sys is listed then open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass <36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000>and delete the UpperFilter, usbfilter pair.

Reboot the machine and try the installation.

See attached: trying to do the most basic customized install. I attached the larger log as well. No dice on the USBfilter.sys file either.

Vmware horizon client windows 7 не устанавливается

I have a problem installing VMware horizon client 5.3 and 4.10 in my ThinkPC after i formatted my computer which has the latest update.

I cannot understand why i can’t install, i’ll provide the logs saved in %temp% folder.

I have tried unselecting support for Skype, HTML and Teams, changing folder directory, installing VMware 5.3 and 4.10 and didn’t work.

I hope someone can help me to figure out how to fix this problem, the objective is to remotly connect to a VDI.

you tried to check the compatibility of the version (build) of Windows 10. because between the versions there are substantial differences.

I also get the installation failed, no matter what options I select. We tried to push an update to our campus users and the installation failed, leaving their Horizon Clients in an impacted state where it could not be used.

For me, it still does not install and rolls back when I just try to run the x64 version of Horizon Client 5.3.0. I have not had this problem with previous versions, only with this one.

I noticed these same error messages in previous VMWare install logs, but they mean nothing to me. Probably only VMWare can decode them.

CustomAction VM_AddViewLocalHostEntryToHostsFile returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)

After investigating further I found that our AV software (Webroot) was blocking applications from editing the HOSTS file. disabling the setting while the install runs FIXED the issue.
