Solved Answer

Windows is an intricate system, which is performing multiple tasks once activated. Therefore, all constituent parts of the OS have to work flawlessly. If, for some reason, one of the parts exits the formations, the system may start reporting about malfunctions by slowing down, freezing, or bringing up error messages. Error code 0xC0000005, also known as Access Violation Error, is one of them.

0xC0000005 is a relatively rare but broad error, as it might even prevent users from using the most common Windows functions, such as preventing audio from being played or being unable to access Control Panel. Without a doubt, such scenarios can significantly reduce user experience, hence the need to perform 0xC0000005 fix as soon as possible.

There are a few different instances of the issue. The 0xC0000005 pop-up indicates the following information:

Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the install sources are accessible, and restart installation

Error code: 0xC0000005

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application

It is stated that 0xC0000005 error usually occurs when a particular application is trying to access memory, which is no longer available or can’t be accessed for some reason. As a consequence, the connection cannot be created, and the system cannot perform a required task.

Thus, since the actual cause of the 0xC0000005 error is not clear, you should try all fixes provided below.

Note, before you try to fix 0xC0000005 manually, we suggest you try to solve the issue automatically with the help of a repair tool ReimageMac Washing Machine X9 – it is designed to find a root cause of the problem and fix it within a scan. This is especially beneficial for less IT-savvy users.

Fix 1. Check the system for malware

Fix it now!

Fix it now!

To repair damaged system, you have to purchase the licensed version of Reimage Reimage.

In general, it’s advisable to check the system with a professional malware removal tool regularly. A full system scan is also a must when your PC encounters a system error, such as 0xC0000005, because viruses are by far the most common error pop-up and BSOD[2] causes. Thus, activate the anti-virus that is running on your PC and let it check the system thoroughly.

There are many free third-party applications that offer you trial versions, so a scan with these tools should suffice, although you should make sure that the provider is reputable – there are plenty of fake anti-malware tools that act like malware themselves instead of guarding users. However, the built-in Windows Defender (known as Microsoft Defender as of recently) is more than sufficient to ensure that no malware is involved. The tool has been tested by various independent parties and proved to be just as good as third-party providers, as is ranked as a top product on multiple occasions.[3]

  • In Windows search, type Security and click on Windows Security
  • Select Virus & Threat protection
  • Choose Scan options
  • Click on Full scan and then pick Scan now

Question

I’m trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate onto a computer that is currently running Windows 7 RC. When I attempt to do an «upgrade» I get a not-unexpected error involving the inability to upgrade from the RC.

However, when I attempt to do a clean install, I get the following error:
«Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation.

This error happens regardless of if I try to boot from the disk or run the program after the computer has started. What other information would be helpful?

You cannot upgrade Windows 7 RC to Windows 7 RTM or Retail version. You can only perform a clean install. The error message may happens if your win7 installation DVD is corrupted. Try to copy all the files from Win7 DVD to local drive then run the setup.exe to perform a custom installation of windows 7. If you even cannot copy the files to local drive, the problem must be caused by the corrupted DVD.

I’m having the same problem. So far I’ve tried the same Win7Ultimate x64 disc in two different computers with the same result. It gives the error immediately when I click for the clean install. There was something else on the drives, but it should be unreadable by Windows. Perhaps it checks for some free drive space or even some previous version.

I made an RC1 disc to try loading that instead. Same problem. I have never loaded RC1 before.

Right now, I’m running DBAN on the drive. Also I’ll run DBAN in another system.

Will update later.

I could only get through the install by starting with a clean drive.

Are you saying that I can’t do a clean install? I actually have to wipe my hard drive and then boot the installer from the disk?

In order to keep anything from a previous version, I would set aside that original drive and install Windows7 on a clean drive. That is considering you have a spare drive available.

I could only get through the install by starting with a clean drive.

You have tried a flat installation of Windows 7: Copy all the files from Win7 DVD to local drive then run the setup.exe to perform a custom installation of windows 7.

This method will help you to determine whether the problem is caused by the corrupted disc.

So I took the computer to Best Buy and gave it to the Geek Squad and told them all about it. I got it back 4 days later, and they said that the mobo was bad. I looked at their notes and got the impression that they didn’t really know what was wrong and didn’t want to get in too deep, but a bad mobo would explain some of the weird behavior that that computer has shown recently.

Just for the record, here’s a loose order of events that happened as I tried to install Windows 7:

  1. Attempted clean install while Windows 7 RC was running: error 0xE0000100
  2. Attempted upgrade while Windows 7 RC was running: Cannot upgrade from Windows 7 RC.

После установки Windows 7 ошибка: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed

Однако на завершающем этапе получил ошибку: «The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed».

  3. Открываем ветку HKEY LOCAL MACHINE/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion.

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2503.

Welcome to Microsoft Community. We are here to assist you will all your Windows related issues and queries.

You have mentioned that you are unable to install the program named “Smartscore” by Musitek which you have downloaded as you are getting the error: “The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package.” and the error code shown is “2503”. I would like to have some information regarding this error:

1. When exactly are you getting this error? Is it when you try to open the program setup file which you have downloaded or is it in between the installation of the package?

2. Have you made any recent changes on the computer prior to this issue?

3. Did you try any troubleshooting steps for this issue?

4. Do you have any third party security program installed on the computer?

This might be either due to some issues with the Windows Installer service or it might be an issue with the package that you have downloaded. So, I would suggest you to try downloading the package again and then try installing it.

This might also happen, if the downloaded file is corrupted due to some malicious software infection in the computer.

Let’s try some troubleshooting steps and check if that helps:

Method 1: Check the Windows Installer Service and also unregister and re-register the Windows Installer

Step 1: Check the Windows Installer Service

a) Press “Windows Logo” + “R” and type “service.msc”

b) In the “Service” window scroll down and find the “Windows Installer” service. Double-click “Windows Installer” in the Services list to open its properties window.

c) On the “General” tab, make sure the service is started under “Service status”.

d) If the service was stopped, under “Service status”, then start the service by clicking on the “Start” button, and then click “OK”.

Step 2: Unregister and re-register the Windows Installer

a) Press “Windows Logo” + “R” to open the Run Command Window.

b) In the run command window type the following command and click on “Ok”.

c) Press “Windows Logo” + “R” to open the Run Command Window again.

d) In the run command window type the following command and click on “Ok”.

e) Now, try installing the package again and check.

Method 2: Perform a Clean Boot and find out which application/service is causing this issue.

A clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts and to determine what is causing the problem. Perform a clean boot on the computer by following the steps given in the link:

Follow all the steps given in this link and try to figure out the application or service causing this issue.

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, refer the article “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot” for Windows 8, given under the section “More Information” to reset the computer to start as usual from the above link.

Let’s also check if the computer is infected by any malicious software infections by running the Microsoft Safety Scanner.

Method 3: Run Microsoft Safety Scanner and check if there are any infections in the computer.

I would also suggest you to check if the computer is infected by any malicious software. For this let’s try running the Microsoft Safety Scanner and then check the issue. You can download and run the Safety Scanner from this link:

Note: When running a scan using an Anti Virus program, any data files that are infected may be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Hope this resolves the issue. If this issue persists, please get back to us with the results of the above troubleshooting methods.

Hello.

So i decided to build my own PC this time around, and it has been pure hell. I really hope that someone here can help me out, or at least let me know if it sounds plausible that there is a fault in one of my components. I have done a lot of testing to locate the error and will try to describe it here, so bear with me, this can get a bit long.

I have connected everything and it all looks good in the bios. I have not overclocked anything and i am running the RAM pure vanilla without DOCP, so at 2133mhz. I have updated the Motherboard to the latest bios.

When i boot up on my windows USB stick with a bootable windows, i don’t get very far until i am hit with the error: “Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation. (Error: 0xC0000005)”

So i thought that it was probably something with my USB stick or install media. So i did this:

  1. Try another USB stick — same error.

  2. Try with an external harddrive formatted by the Windows boot installer — same error.

  3. Try downloading a Windows ISO and use Rufus to create a bootable USB — same error.

  4. Create bootable drive with Rufus on external harddrive — same error.

  5. Use rufus to create bootable media from older version of Windows i used a couple of years ago — same error.

After Googling a lot o discovered that installing Windows on an m.2 requires some settings in the bios. I did this:

  1. Make sure CSM is disabled.

  2. In secure boot set OS to “Other OS”

  3. Clear secure boot keys.

  4. Boot up on windows install media.

Same error.

Please note the the M.2 drive is showing just fine in the bios. Sometimes i get a few steps in on the installer, and i can see that the Windows installer can also see the M.2. drive.

I then decided to try and partition the M.2 drive via cmd prompt. I did this:

  1. Partition the M.2 drive.

  2. Make the drive GPT.

  3. Format to NTFS.

Same error.

I then took out the M.2 drive and tried it in my old PC. Works just fine there.

Maybe if i install on another drive? I did this:

  1. Try to install on older SATA SSD drive i had lying around.

Same error.

So it was not the boot media or the harddrive. Then it surely must be the RAM. I did the following:

  1. Take out all ram blocks.

  2. Insert just one RAM block in slot B2 (as described in the manual).

Same error. I then did this:

  1. Insert another RAM block in slot A2.

Same error. Maybe the RAM was just from a bad batch or was too fast for the motherboard. I did this:

  1. Take out all RAM.

  2. Take 8gb 2600 mhz Kingston RAM from my old PC and see i that would work — same error.

  3. Take 2x8gb 2600 mhz Kingston RAM and see if that would work — same error.

Same Error.

So apparently it wasn’t the RAM. Maybe the processor was installed wrong or the cooler not cooling. I did this:

  1. Check processor temperature in bios — It was around 50 degrees celcius.

  2. Check AIO pump flow in bios — it was at 1100 rpm.

  3. LCD on pump says fluid temperature i 30-35 degrees celcius.

  4. Dismantle pump and take out processor to check installation.

  5. Conclude that no pins are bent or missing, installed again.

  6. Installed AOI again. Same temperatures.

Same error on Windows 10 install.

Maybe the BIOS is just really bad?

  1. Install new beta bios.

Same error.

  1. Install older bios than the one the MB came with.

Same error.

So now i am at a complete loss as to what can be wrong.

Any suggestions?

Questions:

  1. Is there a way i can control, without having Windows 10 installed, if i have a faulty CPU?

  2. Is it possible to do diagnostics on the motherboard?

  3. Is it possible to check if the PSU is faulty, and could that even create errors like this?

  4. My GPU came from my old machine. It is about a year old and has worked perfectly in my other machine. But could the GPU somehow be cause any of this?

  5. Am i missing some settings in the BIOS or something that i should change? I have tried doing a safe bios boot as well with the same results.

Notes:

  1. During the different installations it is a bit random how far i get. I did manage to once get it installed and actually boot into windows. But from there it was a constant loop of BSOD’s until Windows 10 got so corrupted that i couldn’t boot into it anymore. The BSOD’s have been all over the place. Some with driver faults, some with memory faults, and some unhandled exceptions.

  2. I am using the NZXT Smart device V2 to power fans and RGB in the NZXT H710i cabinet.

  3. If i have to do an RMA on the MB it would be great if i could very specifically point out what is wrong. I see now that the shop where i bought it is kindda famous for just denying RMA’s and refunds etc.

I hope someone here can help!

Updates:

  1. I’ve now plugged in the 4 pin CPU power as well as the 8 PIN in case it was a power issue. Didn’t fix it.

  2. I’ve switched the GPU to an older Asus ROG STRIX Geforce 980ti. This did not fix the issue either.

  3. Did an overnight memtest. It found no errors in memory.

  4. Today i managed to get it working’ish. And i am now certain there is an issue with the MB.

I wanted to try and see if i really couldn’t install on a normal sata ssd. So i took out my old sata from my old computer and put that in. The machine booted into the windows installation on that drive.

That gave me an idea, and i put the m.2 drive into my old PC, installed Windows on it with no issue what so ever. Updated. Did some disk checks, and everything was fine. Then i moved the m.2 to the new computer. It booted into windows.

However it is a constant stream of BSOD’s of all kinds. The m.2 got corrupted and when i did chkdsk it would just crash midway through. Sfc was locked.

I moved the m.2 back in my old machine. Chkdsk and sfc fixed the errors immediately. I then moved the m.2 back to the new machine, and the bsod’s continued. Samsungs own monitor tool says the disk is fine and as no bad sectors or errors and is operating at 100%.

I’ve managed to run prime95 to stress the Ryzen 9500x. There was no crash and the temperature was just fine. It ran for 30 minutes, max temp was 63 degrees.

But when i move around in Windows it constantly crashes, gets slow etc, and corrupts the harddrive.

This is the list of BSOD’s i have gotten:

Irql not less or equal x5System PTE Misuse x7KMODE_Exception not handled x5cache manager x1Memory_Management x1Critical process died x5System service exception x5DPC watchdog violation x1System_Thread_Exception_Not_Handled x4

I’m trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate over my existing Windows 7 Professional. I downloaded the ISO from Microsoft and burned the install disc at the slowest speed possible (x3).

I booted to the DVD, but at the second screen I am already getting an error! That screen I am choosing between «Upgrade» and «Custom». I am trying to choose «Custom» but then I get the error:

Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation.

Error code: 0xE0000100

There could be 3 reasons for this error:

  1. Partition problem described in KB939727
  2. Problem with the media or the bad iso/Win 7 installation (burn using another device or using another software; don’t use RW media). Use the genuine Windows 7 Ultimate
  3. You can try the following:

    • Boot into Windows 7 installer DVD
    • Select Repair your computer
    • Select the Command prompt in the Choose the recovery tool dialog
    • Type diskpart
    • Press Enter
    • Type list disk
    • Press Enter
    • Identify the number of your target HD
    • Type select disk 0 (assuming that your disk is 0)
    • Press Enter
    • Type clean
    • Press Enter
    • Type exit

Now your MBR is cleaned up and you should be able to install the Windows 7

This error is often caused by issues with the hard disk, especially the MBR. There are a couple things you can try. I would first try running a chkdsk and have it repair/recover any errors it finds. If that doesn’t fix it, check for invalid disk partitions. You may need a tool like Parted Magic to fix issues with invalid partitions.

According to
Error message when you use Windows Vista Setup to try to create a partition: «Error code: 0xE0000100»:

Consider the following scenario. You have a Windows Vista-based computer. An image that the manufacturer created was used to install Windows Vista. The manufacturer used the System Preparation (Sysprep) tool to create this image. The computer’s hard disk drive is partitioned into two or more partitions. The partition on which Windows Vista is installed is larger than 40 gigabytes (GB). Additionally, the size of the partition is a multiple of 4 GB. You run Windows Vista Setup. You delete the existing partition on which Windows Vista is installed. You try to create a new partition. In this scenario, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

Even though the article is about an issue with Vista, additional searches revealed that the error code is usually related to a partitioning issue.
