• The evaluation has an embedded product key. You just need to connect it to internet long enough for activation to complete. Then you can disconnect from internet for the remainder of the 180 day evaluation.

• I wish this would be true.

  I have installed a fresh Server 2019 Standard Desktop Experience and the available updates for the OS. But after 48 hours on the Internet, System Info (after hitting Windows-Pause combination) tells me Windows is not activated. Message centre tells me that
  Windows need to be activated. When I follow that, Activation tells me there is a product key: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-J464C. But it also tells me: We can’t activate Windows on this device as we can’t connect to your organization’s activation server. Make sure
  you’re connected to your organization’s network and try again. Error code: 0x8007007B

  It appears that it is a KMS key. We don’t have a KMS server, so how can I activate just a standalone Windows 2019 Trial?

• No, it seems that there is an embedded product key: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-J464C (which has the same 5 digits at the end as your suggested key).

• Where did you get the installation media? For the evaluation you should be using

  if this is the source then its possible the cached copy is somehow corrupt. ISP’s employ file caching devices to manage bandwidth so you might also try downloading from another location such as a coffee shop, etc. to avoid getting the same corrupt copy.

• Yes, that’s where I have downloaded the ISO file.

  When you receive a follow up mail from Microsoft, you cannot reply to it.

  The problem seems to be that there is an embedded KMS eval product key but I need a MAK eval product key.

• Sounds like some corruption in the download. ISP’s employ file caching devices to manage bandwidth so you might also try downloading from another location such as a coffee shop, etc. to avoid getting the same corrupt copy.

• Have downloaded a trial copy here: https://archive.org/details/WS2019_trial

  ISO file is different in size. Creating bootable USB and will install.

• That is not an official download site.  I would be very careful about using that because you do not know if they have modified the image to contain their own software, whether it is malicious or not.  You should only trust media that comes from
  Microsoft or one of its licensed resellers.

• Not recommended to download windows from unknown sources. Not sure what you meant about product key type or why it even matters as long as it works. The same full features are available in the 180 day evaluation as the licensed product.

  As long as Windows Server 2019 is not activated a lot of functions (e.g. setting taskbar properties) are not available.

  It is a standalone test system. We don’t have an organization activation server (you need that if you activate KMS product keys). If you do not have an activation server, you need a product key that can be activated by Microsoft during the activation process.

  I will perform download from another location. But I do doubt if that will solve it. I can mount the ISO file without error, so the ISO is not corrupt.

  Sounds like the wrong download selected which you can find here.

  Have not seen this, sounds like something broken or possible corruption in the download.

  Again this isn’t normal, might try it on another network that has internet its possible there’s confusion with a site KMS?

• I think I found out why it did not work as expected.
  During language, date/time/currency / keyboard selection screen I have chosen Dutch (Nehterlands) as the date/time/currency.
  I have repeated the install without changing this, only selecting US-International keyboard and guess what: Windows Server 2019 Standard Evalutation Version, Licensed for 180 days on bottom richt corner.

  This makes me pulling my hair out . . . .
